What do Your Planets say about Your Career

Planets in Vedic Astrology

Our ancient system of Vedic Astrology recognizes 9 planets in its scheme of things. These are the Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, Saturn, and the shadow planets Rahu and Ketu, which have no physical existence.

All these planets play crucial roles in all significant aspects of life, one of which is the issue of livelihood, which includes career.

But if there is one planet that is of particular significance in matters of career, it can only be Saturn.

Saturn, the Karma Karaka

Karma Karaka- this is how Shani or planet Saturn is referred to in astrology. He is the significator of Karma, the jobs and duties we perform. Saturn signifies a person's occupation, the nature of work a person undertakes for his livelihood. Astrology classifies these planets as benefic and malefic, and Saturn remains a malefic planet. But if placed strongly and advantageously in a birth chart, it can bestow the ability to do hard and disciplined work, provide a sense of responsibility, raise the native in his career, and give status, wealth, properties, and fame. Further, when Saturn is placed in a sign ruled by itself or is exalted, this malefic planet can prove auspicious. Likewise, Saturn can prove fortunate for those with the Venus-ruled signs Taurus or Libra as their Ascendant, bestowing them with excellent results.

10th House, the Karma Sthana

What matters in such aspects is not only the planet but also its placement in a birth chart.

A birth chart or horoscope consists of 12 astrological Houses, which correspond to the 12 signs of the zodiac. The 9 planets, as they are found in the celestial realm at the time of an individual's birth, are plotted in any of these 12 Houses. Each of these Houses signifies certain vital aspects of life. That way, the 10th House is known as the Karma Sthana, which denotes a person's occupation. This 10th House and its particulars, like how well it is placed in a horoscope, which zodiac sign it corresponds to, who is its planetary lord and which planets occupy that House or associated with it, may significantly influence a person's career and the field of work of the native, and the quality of work life.

The 10th House also represents ambition, determination, status, honor, power, authority, and recognition. If this House and the corresponding zodiac sign are auspicious and well-placed, one can predict a bright career for the native, with consistent growth and progress commensurate with the efforts.

Instead, if malefic planets, like Saturn, Rahu, Mars, and Ketu, rule the 10th House or are placed there, there are possibilities for the native to resort to some illegality. Besides, Saturn's influence over the 10th House can lead to fields of work like engineering, mining, and something labor-intensive; Rahu's influence can lead to software engineering, research, aviation, speculation, or politics; Ketu influence to religious activities and occult sciences like astrology; and Mars influence to military, police, construction, and energy sectors.

If the king planet Sun rules the 10th House, it can indicate a position of authority or political power.

On the other hand, if benefic planets are placed in the 10th House, that can indicate a respectable profession with handsome earnings through righteous mode.

Other Houses’ Role

Also, to fully understand the career graph and make predictions, one has to study this 10th House along with the First, Second, and Sixth Houses.

The First House is significant as the Lagna or Ascendant of the native. It denotes the self, the kind of person one is, and one's physical and mental makeup. The planet that rules the Lagna, the Lagna Lord, when well-placed, can indicate the robust initiatives the native may make in his career.

The Second House is the House of Wealth. Its strong placement can promote handsome earning through career or profession.

Though the Sixth House denotes enemies, diseases, and debts, it also stands for service or employment. A well-placed Sixth House can ensure good pay and earnings.

Career Type and Timings

The planets are also constantly on the move, and these transits can keep causing Yogas and Doshas, giving both favorable and unfavorable results depending on planetary placements and the structure of the horoscope.

Besides, questions like—when can a person get his or her first employment? How will it be? Whether one can get a permanent job? - can be answered by studying the Dasha, the major planetary periods of the planets placed in or associated with the 10th House, the transit of the planets connected with the 10th House or its planetary lord, and the transits of the planets Saturn and Jupiter.
