Our ancient system of Vedic Astrology recognizes 9 planets in its scheme of things. These are the Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, Saturn, and the shadow planets Rahu and Ketu, which have no physical existence.

All these planets play crucial roles in all significant aspects of life, one of which is the issue of livelihood, which includes career.

But if there is one planet that is of particular significance in matters of career, it can only be Saturn.

Saturn, the Karma Karaka

Karma Karaka- this is how Shani or planet Saturn is referred to in astrology. He is the significator of Karma, the jobs and duties we perform. Saturn signifies a person's occupation, the nature of work a person undertakes for his livelihood. Astrology classifies these planets as benefic and malefic, and Saturn remains a malefic planet.
