Seek Ayyappa’s Protection & Grace
Why This Sacred Ayyappa Season Matters
Sabarimala, Ayyappa’s sacred hill shrine, opens for the annual Mandala season on Nov. 16, 2026 at 5:00 PM. Traditional pilgrims prepare through Mandala Vratham, a 41-day devotional discipline of prayer, purity and self-control, seeking Ayyappa’s protection, purification and spiritual strength. AstroVed’s Grand Invocation begins that morning with the opening Homa and continues through the season, with priests performing selected worship on participants’ behalf, allowing devotees to take part even when they cannot travel to Sabarimala.
Ayyappa, the Divine Protector
Revered as Dharma Sastha, Ayyappa is described in sacred tradition as the Divine son of Shiva and Vishnu in the form of Mohini. His path unites courage with self-mastery, while Sabarimala’s 18 sacred steps symbolize rising beyond the senses and human tendencies toward surrender and Divine connection. Traditional belief also associates Ayyappa worship with relief from difficult Saturn influences.
Four Core Blessings to Seek from Ayyappa
All-Round Protection
Ayyappa’s guardian grace is invoked against negativity, hardship and traditionally associated Saturn-related afflictions that can disturb peace or progress.
Prosperity & Steady Progress
Pray for success, good fortune, well-being and the strength to move forward with clear purpose and righteousness.
Purification & Release from Karmic Burdens
Turn toward Ayyappa for inner purification, release from negative influences and relief from karmic burdens that weigh on spiritual progress.
Wish-Fulfillment & Divine Support
Place sincere prayers for family, peace, success or spiritual growth before Ayyappa, traditionally praised as a fulfiller of righteous desires.
How the Grand Invocation Carries Your Prayers Through the Season
The worship is performed on participants’ behalf and follows a clear devotional progression, beginning with protection, continuing through sustained prayer, extending across sacred locations, and deepening through purification and service.
Nov. 16 • Open with the 5-Priest Dharma Sastha Homa
AstroVed priests begin the Grand Invocation at 6:00 AM IST, before Sabarimala opens later that day at 5:00 PM. This Homa, a sacred fire ritual, invokes Ayyappa as Dharma Sastha for protection from negative influences and traditionally associated Saturn afflictions, while praying for courage, prosperity and spiritual direction.
Nov. 16 to Dec. 27 • 42 Days of Ayyappa Worship & Saturday Livestreams
For 42 days, Nei Abishekam and Ayyappa Pooja sustain the prayer through the season. Grace and Grandeur also include 42-Day Padi Pooja, worship of Ayyappa’s 18 sacred steps. Both 42-day services run from Nov. 16 to Dec. 27, 2026 and are livestreamed on Saturdays. The 42-Day Nei Abishekam & Pooja service is separate from the Nei Abishekam Sponsorship included in every package, a dedicated ghee-bathing offering made to Ayyappa on the participant’s behalf.
Nov. 21 & Nov. 28 • Archana at 6 Ayyappa Powerspots
Archana, devotional chanting of Ayyappa’s sacred names, is offered at 3 Chennai Powerspots on Nov. 21 and 3 Kerala Powerspots on Nov. 28. These prayers extend the invocation through six sacred locations, seeking protection, peace, prosperity, well-being and fulfillment of sincere wishes.

Every package includes a separate Nei Abishekam Sponsorship, along with Irumudi Kit Sponsorship, food feeding, black-clothes donation and Vedi Vazhipadu for Ayyappa devotees. FAQ’s
Ayyappa, also revered as Dharma Sastha, Hariharaputra, and Manikandan, is the Divine son of Shiva and Vishnu in the form of Mohini. He embodies Dharma (Righteousness), courage, self-discipline, and spiritual wisdom. Ayyappa manifested to destroy the demoness Mahishi, restore righteousness, and protect devotees from evil forces. Worshipping Ayyappa is believed to remove obstacles, dispel negativity, grant inner strength, and bestow Divine protection.
Ayyappa Pooja is performed with devotion, purity, and complete surrender to Ayyappa. Devotees begin by bathing, wearing clean clothes, lighting a ghee lamp, and offering flowers, fruits, coconut, and sacred Naivedyam. Observing the 41-day Mandala Vratham, participating in Padi Pooja, and performing Dharma Sastha Homa are sacred ways of seeking Ayyappa’s blessings for protection, peace, spiritual purification, and the fulfillment of sincere wishes.
Ayyappa Deeksha is traditionally observed for 41 days, known as Mandala Vratham. This sacred period of penance begins with Mala Dharana (wearing the sacred Mala) and involves celibacy, vegetarian food, daily prayers, self-control, and detachment from worldly pleasures. This austerity purifies the mind, body, and soul and strengthens the devotee’s Divine connection with Ayyappa. During the 2026 Mandala period, from Nov. 16 to Dec. 26, AstroVed offers a 41-Day Sankalpa Archana in the devotee’s name, seeking Ayyappa’s blessings for spiritual purification, relief from obstacles, and overall well-being.
Padi Pooja is the sacred worship of the 18 holy steps, known as Pathinettam Padi, leading to Ayyappa’s sanctum at Sabarimala. These steps represent the spiritual journey from worldly attachments to Divine consciousness. The first five symbolize the five senses, the next eight represent human passions, the following three signify the Trigunas (Sattva, Rajas, and Tamas), and the final two represent knowledge and ignorance.
The 18 sacred steps of Sabarimala signify the devotee’s ascent toward self-realization and complete surrender to Ayyappa. They are also associated with the 18 Puranas, 18 chapters of the Bhagavad Gita, and 18 sacred hills surrounding Sabarimala.
Irumudi Kettu is a sacred two-compartment bundle carried by devotees who have observed the 41-Day Vratham. Carrying the Irumudi symbolizes sacrifice, purity, and surrender. Traditionally, devotees carrying the sacred Irumudi are permitted to ascend the 18 holy steps and seek Ayyappa’s Divine Darshan.
The 41-Day Ayyappa Vratham is a sacred discipline observed to attain purity, self-control, and Divine connection with Ayyappa. Devotees wear a Tulsi or Rudraksha Mala, traditionally received from a Guruswami, and follow a life of simplicity and devotion. The austerities include observing celibacy, consuming vegetarian food, avoiding alcohol and smoking, offering daily prayers, and refraining from anger, dishonesty, and worldly indulgences. Devotees traditionally wear black, blue, or saffron clothes and chant Ayyappa’s sacred names. These practices are believed to cleanse negative karma, strengthen the mind, and prepare devotees for Ayyappa’s Divine blessings.
The 41-Day Ayyappa Vratham begins with Mala Dharana under the guidance of a Guruswami. Devotees wake up early, bathe, offer prayers twice daily, chant “Swamiye Saranam Ayyappa,” and lead a life of purity, humility, and self-restraint. Vegetarian food, celibacy, abstinence from intoxicants, and control over thoughts, words, and actions are essential aspects of this sacred penance. Performing Anna Dhanam (food donation), visiting Ayyappa Powerspots, and engaging in charitable acts further enhance spiritual merit. The Vratham culminates in sacred worship and, for pilgrims, the preparation of Irumudi Kettu before undertaking the Sabarimala pilgrimage.
Dharma Sastha Homa is a powerful sacred ritual performed to invoke Ayyappa in his Divine aspect as Dharma Sastha, the Protector and Upholder of Righteousness. According to traditional beliefs, Dharma Sastha Homa can help mitigate Saturn afflictions, including Shani Dasa (Major Planetary Period) and Bhukti (Minor Planetary Period), provide protection from evil forces, grant courage and perseverance, and bestow peace, prosperity, and spiritual growth.
Mandala Pooja marks the sacred completion of the 41-Day Mandala Vratham observed by Ayyappa devotees during Mandala Kalam. It signifies the culmination of penance, self-discipline, spiritual purification, and complete surrender to Ayyappa.
Makara Jyothi is associated with the auspicious Makara Sankranti celebrations at Sabarimala in mid-January. The sacred Makara Jyothi and the ceremonial Makaravilakku light hold profound spiritual significance for Ayyappa devotees.
Both observances are believed to invoke Ayyappa’s Divine grace, remove negative karma, and guide devotees toward righteousness and spiritual liberation.
Yes. Devotees who are unable to undertake the sacred Sabarimala pilgrimage can seek Ayyappa’s Divine grace through special Poojas, Homas, and sacred offerings performed on their behalf. Participating in Padi Pooja, Dharma Sastha Homa, Ayyappa Archana, and sponsoring Irumudi Kits and Anna Dhanam (Food Feeding) for Ayyappa devotees, are meaningful ways to express devotion.
Sponsoring Irumudi offerings helps support devotees undertaking the sacred pilgrimage and is believed to bestow spiritual merit, cleanse negative karma, remove obstacles, and invoke Ayyappa’s blessings for protection, prosperity, peace, and spiritual progress.
