Vishnu took the form of Narasimha, half lion, and half human to kill the demon king Hiranyakasapu. After tearing the demon's body apart and on drinking his blood, Narasimha turned very ferocious and destructive. The Gods and sages realized that Narasimha has to be contained and pacified. So they sought the help of Shiva who took the form of Saraba, half bird and half human form with two wings of Shakti, one representing Goddess Shoolini and the other Pratyangira. After Saraba failed to calm down the ferocity of Narasimha, Shoolini too tried and failed, Pratyangira took the form of Narasimha to calm him and eventually calmed pacified and calmed him. Pratyangira holds tremendous amount of energy, much more than Shiva in the form of Sarabeshswara.
