Introduction to Vastu Shastra

The ancient system of architecture that our people were following is known as Vastu Shastra. This is regarded as a divine science, and the work that lays down its principles is considered a Shastra, the sacred text. The governing deity of Vastu is Vastu Purusha, and many Gods are believed to have taken the various parts of his body as their homes.

Mantras for Vastu Deities

It is believed accordingly, that every one of these Gods is representing the portion of Vastu Purusha’s body, which he or she is occupying. Such deities are as many as 45 in numbers. While it is true that worshipping Vastu Purusha amounts to worshipping all these Gods, these deities do have their own specific prayer hymns too. These are sacred mantras, the chanting of which can please the particular deity and earn his or her blessings for the devotees.

Recite the following hymn and worship the Lord of Vastu, for receiving his grace :

Om Shikhye Namah’ is the mantra for the deity, Shikhi (Isha);

Om Parjanye Namah’ for Parjanya;

Om Jayantaya Namah’ for Jayanta;

Om Kulishyudhaya Namah’ for Indra;

Om Suryaya Namah’ for Surya;

Om Satyaya Namah’ for Satya;

Om Bhrashase Namah’ for Bhrasha;

Om Akashaye Namah’ for Akash, the Antariksha;

Om Vayave Namah’ for Vayu or Anila;
