Maha Laxmi Mantra

Om Shri Maha Laxmai Namah

In order for the alignment to occur, 40 days of continuous chanting are required. But it may take longer also, for some people.

Goddess Maha Lakshmi

Goddess Maha Lakshmi is the Hindu Goddess of money and wealth. All worldly matters are related to her. She is the consort of Lord Vishnu, one of the Trimurtis and the Archetype of Preservation.

Lakshmi, too, protects her devotees like Vishnu. She is known to be kind and protective. Her Mantra for money has the power to bestow a fortunate and prosperous life.

Goddess Lakshmi also represents good fortune, youth, and beauty. She brings success, good luck, happiness, material comforts, and luxury, as well as spiritual riches. She is a major goddess in Jainism, too. Her idols are often found in Jain temples.

Lakshmi and Vishnu are often worshipped together as Lakshmi-Narayana. Each time Vishnu incarnates and descends to earth, Lakshmi also incarnates in various forms. For example, her avatars include Sita (wife of Lord Rama), Dharani (wife of Parashurama), Rukmini (wife of Lord Krishna), and Padma (wife of Hari).

Lakshmi is also called ‘Lokamata’, which means ‘mother of the world’. Another name is ‘Lola’, which means ‘fickle’, as she supposedly bestows good fortune in a random manner.

She appeared wearing all white and radiating youth as well as beauty. Hence, she got the name Kshirabdhitanaya, ‘daughter of the sea of milk’. She sought Vishnu’s protection at once, and so she is believed to reside on Vishnu’s chest. This is how Vishnu got the name, ‘Shrinivas’, meaning ‘the residence of Sri’. ‘Sri’ means ‘prosperity’. It is one of Lakshmi’s names, too.

The Harivamsa says that the god of love, Kama, is the son of Lakshmi. Interestingly, this evokes Goddess Aphrodite of Greek mythology, who was born from the foaming sea and whose son was Eros, the Greek god of love and sex.

Depiction of Goddess Lakshmi

She is depicted as fair, with a golden complexion. She has 4 hands and sits (or stands) on a pink or red lotus. In one hand, she has a lotus bud. She wears a red sari or reddish-golden attire. The colors symbolize power and prosperity. She also sports gold jewelry.
She also holds a golden pot that is filled with gold coins. The coins flow from her hand, representing abundance. On either side of her are two white elephants that shower divine water on her. This, too, is regarded as a symbol of material and spiritual wealth.
Her four hands represent the following:

1. Dharma-Virtue
2. Artha-Wealth
3. Kama-Desire
4. Moksha-Ascension

Meaning of ‘Lakshmi’

Lakshmi comes from the word ‘Laksha’, which means ‘aim’. In Sanskrit, Laksha means ‘to observe, perceive, recognize, and aim’. Hence, Lakshmi means ‘to understand and know your aim’.

Other meanings include charm, lucky, auspicious, quality, target, symbol, sign, good luck, opportunity, etc.

Birth of Goddess Lakshmi

The Mahabharata says that Goddess Lakshmi emerged from the Milky Ocean when it was churned by the Devas (gods) and Asuras (demons) for obtaining Amrit, the divine elixir of immortality.

How to Chant Lakshmi Mantra

· There are many kinds of Lakshmi Mantras, and each has its own energy and vibrations. But all of them can bestow money, wealth, and prosperity.
· Start the chanting on a Friday, as this day is dedicated to her. Some devotees begin on a Full Moon day. Use a rosary of lotus seeds or a crystal rosary.
· Chant the Mantra early in the morning after taking a bath.
· Chant the Mantra with faith and devotion. Keep an idol/image of the Goddess before you when chanting.
· Counting of the Mantra depends on one’s needs. If you don’t need a lot of money, chant the Mantra 108 times daily. If you need great wealth, chant 540 times daily. The more you chant, the more money you can attract.
