Lord Surya or Sun God is regarded as a “Pratyaksha Devta” by Hindus as he is visible to our eyes. All life and energy on this Earth flow from him. Surya embodies knowledge. He removes darkness (ignorance) and grants wisdom. The Sun God is also known as Bhaskar, Ravi, Aditya, Diwakar, and Dinkar.

There are many benefits of chanting the Surya Mantra. Lord Surya represents our soul (Atman). Vedic Astrology says that water should be offered in a copper utensil to Surya when reciting the Surya Mantra. This enables self-purification, strengthens power, and improves one’s health. Offer water to Surya 7 times as you recite the Surya Mantra. Put some lal chandan and red flowers in the water before offering it. Wear red colored clothes, if possible. Even Lord Rama is said to have worshipped Surya and offered water to him.
