Benefits of Rahu-Ketu Shanti Homam

dateOn July 12, 2024

Rahu and Ketu are shadow planets or lunar nodes in Vedic astrology. They are believed to have a malefic influence on people’s lives. They are also called the snake planets, as Rahu is depicted as the head of a snake and Ketu as the tail.

The placement of Rahu and Ketu in a person's birth chart can affect their marriage, children, education, career, business, and other important aspects of life. When Rahu and Ketu planets are in a bad house or a debilitated state in conjunction with other planets, it can give negative results. This Homam helps pacify them

Ketu can create obstacles in life. It can cause ill health, poverty, loss of wealth, troubles due to evil spirits, loss of property, delays in marriage, etc.

Rahu, when unfavorable, causes many Doshas like Sarpa Dosha, Kalatra Dosha, and Putra Dosha. It also causes diseases, mental instability, and problems in marriage.

Rahu Ketu Shanti Homam is a fire ritual that is performed to eliminate the adverse effects of Rahu and Ketu. Performing the Rahu Ketu Shanti Homam removes Rahu and Ketu dosha in the person’s horoscope.

The Rahu Ketu Shanti Homam can also benefit a person who is undergoing the Maha Dasha or Sub Dasha of these two planets. Rahu Ketu Shanti Homam can nullify the bad effects and give the native a smooth life.

Rahu is known for causing failures, illnesses, obstacles, and confusion in a person’s life. When Rahu is in conjunction with other planets like Mars, Jupiter, Sun, Saturn, and Moon, it forms negative Yogas that create many problems in life.

Despite its spiritual element, Ketu is also a malefic planet. When it is with Rahu, it creates the dreaded Kaal Sarp Dosha, which causes severe problems in life, like persistent misfortune, accidents, etc. When Ketu combines with other planets, it can also form negative Yogas.

Importance of Rahu-Ketu Shanti Homam

This Homam can reduce or eliminate the Doshas or negative effects of these planets. It can also bestow success and relief from diseases, conflicts, and obstacles.

Legend of Rahu And Ketu

Once, the gods and demons got together to churn the Milky Ocean for Amrit, the elixir of immortality. Mt. Mandara served as the churning rod, while the serpent Vasuki was the rope. Many precious things emerged from the ocean during the churning or Samudra Manthan. Finally, Lord Dhanvantari emerged from the ocean, holding the pot of Amrit.

Lord Vishnu took the form of a beautiful damsel called Mohini to distribute the nectar among the gods and demons. However, he had no intention of sharing the nectar with the demons, as the gods feared that the demons would become even more powerful and take over heaven. However, a demon named Swarbhanu realized this and disguised himself as a god to drink the nectar. He took his seat between the Sun and the Moon, but they saw through his disguise and sounded the alarm. Vishnu then decapitated the demon’s head with his Sudarshan chakra. However, by then, he had managed to drink a few drops of the nectar and became immortal.

It is said that Brahma attached Swarbhanu’s head to a snake’s body, which became Rahu, while the demon’s body was attached to the head of the snake. This became Ketu.
