108 Names of Lord Shiva with Meanings

dateOn September 04, 2025

Lord Shiva is the god of destruction in Hindu religion. He is also one of the 3 major Hindu deities, along with Lord Brahma, the creator, and Lord Vishnu, the preserver. Shiva is the leader of ghosts, ghouls, and vampires, as well as the master of thieves and beggars. He is also the god of Time. In Hindu cosmology, the universe regenerates in cycles. It is Shiva who destroys the universe when a cycle ends. This enables the creation of a new universe. Unlike other Hindu deities, Shiva is an ascetic who spends most of his time in meditation. As Adiyogi, he disseminated the knowledge of Yoga to the world through the Saptarishis. Like most Hindu deities, Shiva has many names. Chanting the 108 names of Shiva is believed to help one connect deeply with the deity and bring many blessings. Each name represents a particular quality or attribute of Shiva. 108 Names of Lord Shiva with Meanings
