“knatriya-rudhira-maye jagad-apagata-pāpam snapayasi payasi śamita-bhava-tāpam keśava dhṛta-bhṛgupati-rūpa jaya jagadiśa hare”

Chanting the above verse which indicates Parasurama slaying the unwanted kings is said to be very special on this day. This is why Akshaya Tritiya is also called Prasurama Jayanti. Apart from this, the “Hare Krisha Mantra” can also be chanted 108 times for good luck.

Recite Chapters of Bhagavad-Gita on Akshaya Tritiya

It was on the day of Akshaya Tritiya that the great sage Vyasa started to write Mahabharata. One who reads the Bhagavad Gita will not incur any punishment for the sins he had committed in the past. To eliminate the accumulation of sins, one must read Bhagavad Gita with complete surrender. Starting this on Akshaya Tritiya is considered to be even more auspicious. Reading all 18 chapters is said to eliminate all the sins from previous birth.

There is also a legend of Akshaya Tritiya relating to the Pandavas. According to this legend, the Pandavas received a bowl called Akshaya Patra, which provided unlimited amounts of food from Krishna during their period of exile in the forest. Akshaya Tritiya is the day they received this bowl. So it is considered an auspicious day for Annadanam.

Apart from prayers, one can also distribute food to those in need. It is called Annadana. You can also choose to do this at a Temple of your choice by contributing to their annadana fund. Regardless of how you do it, donating food is considered very auspicious. One can also donate water, vastram (clothes), kumkumam (vermilion), and buttermilk. Another unique donation is offering wheat, which is said to appease Lord Indra. It helps in getting proper rainfall and thus helps agriculture flourish.

It is considered an auspicious day for performing charitable activities. However, it is special to do this on Akshaya Tritiya as it can invoke more wealth and prosperity. As per Vedic scriptures, rulers or kings performed many yagnas seeking wealth for their countries. Charitable actions that are performed compassionately to help the poor will uplift anyone.

While it is not possible to do all of them on Akshaya Tritiya, one can perform any of the activities along with Lakshmi Pooja to seek the blessings of the Goddess.
