Introduction:

Skandagiri Temple or Sri Subrahmanyaswamy temple is dedicated to Lord Subramanya. This is located in the city of Hyderabad, and is one of the most visited temples across India. This is built in south Indian style and has several other deities too. This is one of the important temples, where religious festivals and other events take place. Over the years, it has gained prominence, and a lot of people visit it every day.

Skandagiri Sri Subrahmanya Swamy Temple

This temple was built in the year 1960, by a group of passionate devotees. They are ardent devotees of Lord Subramanya, who formed a committee to celebrate the Aadi Krithigai. They wanted to get the idol of Lord Ganesha from the Chapati in Chidambaram. Lord Subramanya himself appeared in their dreams and asked them to avoid salt until the construction of the temple was completed. The Chapati completed the idol of Lord Ganesha, and it was time to install the idol in the temple. The committee members were looking for a suitable place. Kanchi Mahaperiyava was touring Hyderabad and found a suitable hillock with mystical powers. He felt it would make a good abode for Lord Subramanya. Swamigal himself performed the Sankabhishegam of Lord Ganesha. It was in the year 1960, and the idols of Lord Subramanya, along with Valli and Devasena, were also installed.

Architecture of Skandagiri Temple:

It is built on top of a small hillock in Dravidian style. A devotee has to climb a lot of steps to reach the temple. There are several shrines inside the temple, for Lord Ganesha, Lord Subramanya, Goddess Lakshmi, Lord Ekambareswarar, and Goddess Kamakshi Amma.

Festivals celebrated in Skandagiri Temple:

Festivals like Shiva Ratri, Panguni Uthiram, Ugadi, Deepavali, Pradosham, and Navaratri are highly celebrated. Tuesdays and Saturdays are very special. Navaratri is also celebrated for ten days here.

This temple is visited by many devotees, who have Rahu and Ketu dosha. Special pooja is performed to remove the negative afflictions and to ensure a peaceful life. The nearest airport is in the city of Hyderabad, which is almost 20 Km from the temple. From Hyderabad airport, you can use road transport to reach the temple. Many private taxis are available.

By Rail

The nearest railway station is the Secundrabad Railway Station, which is located close to the temple premises.

By Road

This temple is well-connected by buses operated by both government and private entities. Other than buses, autos, and taxis are also available.
