According to legend, while Rama passed through this area after killing Ravana, he wanted to worship the Saikata Lingam here. As there was no water, he dug a small spring and performed Abishekam to Shiva Lingam with that water. That's why the deity became known as Rama Lingeswara. Since then, priests have performed Abishekam to the deity with this water.

The exact age of Sri Bugga Rama Lingeswara Temple is unknown. A tall arch and a huge Nadi greet the visitors two kilometers before the temple. The roads are good to travel. So, people often visit the temple, especially during Shivratri.

Before visiting Sri Bugga Rama Lingeswara Temple, devotees visit Kalabhairava Swamy in the Isannapally area. There are many steps to reach the main hall from the temple. A Shiva statue is in the main hall, and Dwadasha Jyotirlingas have been installed between the stairs. The sanctum enshrines the main deity, Sri Bugga Rama Lingeswara, and his consort. A Shiva Lingam is also there in the sanctum. Ganesha, Hanuman, and Navagraha have separate shrines. People worship in the Santana Naga shrine for progeny blessings.

Magala Gauri Devi has a separate shrine, and priests perform Kumkum Archana for her. People pour Vadibiyyam and offer prayers to her. Veerabhadra and Bhadrakali grace the visitors at the entrance of the Sri Bugga Rama Lingeswara Temple. The spring is on one side of the temple. The water supposedly has medicinal properties.

There is a five-story Ratha (chariot) before the temple. Sri Bugga Rama Lingeswara Temple manages Dharmashala, Goshala, Ashram, and Veerabhadra Garden.
