The sage was well-known for his anger and received many blessings from his severe penances. They had five sons, and Parashurama was one among them. His parents considered him as the incarnation of Vishnu. During a dispute, Sage ordered his son to behead his mother, Renuka. Parashurama obeyed his father's order and decapitated his mother. Simultaneously, he beheaded one more woman who came to protect Renuka. He also beheaded his brothers, who refused to obey their father's order. When the sage calmed down, Parashurama requested him to bring back his mother and brothers' lives. The sage accepted his request. He found the bodies and heads of two women had interchanged. Sage Jamadagni accepted the woman with the body of his wife Renuka, which was with the head of another woman. Later, the head of Renuka became Yellamma.
