Santhana Venugopala Swamy Temple is an ancient temple in Chinoor village, Nagireddy Pet Mandal, Kamareddy district, Telangana.
According to legend, seven hundred years ago, King Gary, who ruled this region during the period of the Nijam kings, had a dream. In his dream, a man in the form of Bhagawat appeared in the village pool as an idol of Venugopala Swamy and told the king to find it and build a temple. The next day, the king ordered his soldiers to visit the pool and search for the idol. After several hours of search, they found a 2.5-foot beautiful idol of Santhana Venugopala Swamy with his consorts Satyabhama and Rukmini.
Local mythology explains that the idols of Sri Sudarshan Perumal and Sriman Narayana were found along with the idol of Santhana Venugopala Swamy. The king built a glorious temple and installed the idols of Santhana Venugopala Swamy, Nammazhwar, and Bhagavad Ramanuja. According to the Agama Sastras, the worship of Santhana Venugopala Swamy and the special festivals of the Santhana Venugopala Swamy Temple are a treat to the eyes.
Sri Santhana Venugopala Swamy, an incarnation of Sri Krishna, considered Venugopala, is the presiding deity here. This Santhana Venugopala Swamy temple is a small temple built in the South Indian architectural style. Strong pillars support the hall. The sanctum is next to the hall where Sri Santhana Gopala Swamy stands with a flute. His black-colored idol is on a raised platform and flanked by Nammazhwar and Bhagavad Ramanuja. The idol of Utsava Moorthy, along with his divine consorts, is also in the sanctum. There are Prabhavalis for Utsavar and Moolavar.
The main festivals of the Santhana Venugopala Swamy Temple are the marriage Mahotsav of Venugopala Swamy, Janmashtami, and Vaikunta Ekadashi. The temple is colorfully decorated with fragrant flowers and other decorations on festive occasions. Devotees throng the temple for special Poojas and prayers, seeking the deity's blessings.
