According to legend, seven hundred years ago, King Gary, who ruled this region during the period of the Nijam kings, had a dream. In his dream, a man in the form of Bhagawat appeared in the village pool as an idol of Venugopala Swamy and told the king to find it and build a temple. The next day, the king ordered his soldiers to visit the pool and search for the idol. After several hours of search, they found a 2.5-foot beautiful idol of Santhana Venugopala Swamy with his consorts Satyabhama and Rukmini.

Local mythology explains that the idols of Sri Sudarshan Perumal and Sriman Narayana were found along with the idol of Santhana Venugopala Swamy. The king built a glorious temple and installed the idols of Santhana Venugopala Swamy, Nammazhwar, and Bhagavad Ramanuja.
