History of the Meenakshi Temple

Meenakshi Temple

Sri Narayana Reddy built the Meenakshi Temple in 1993 in the presence of Guru Sri Tiruchi Mahaswamy. He was an ex-member of the Karnataka Legislative Council. He also constructed a Kalyana Mandapa called "Meenakshi Mahal" on the Bangalore - Bannerghatta Road, attracting many devotees and pilgrims daily.

Sri Narayana Reddy was associated with many educational, cultural, and youth organizations, including sports clubs in the State. He expired on May 1, 2001.

The Architecture of the Meenakshi Temple

This modern and recently built Meenakshi Temple features the South Indian architectural style. The temple’s Raja Gopuram (tower) has beautiful sculptures resembling Tamilnadu's old temples. After entering the Meenakshi Temple, one can see the Dhwajasthambha (flagstaff) and Nandi. Next, there is a hall for visitors to sit and relax. It has striking sculptures of Shiva, Parvati, and other Hindu deities.

The courtyard of the temple is long. At every corner of the temple, idols of various deities can be seen. Navagraha, Ganesha, Bhairava, Ayyapa Swamy, Subramanya, Chandikeshwara, Hanuman, Surya, Chandra, and Venkateshwara have separate shrines in the temple's complex.

The Meenakshi Temple is dedicated to Sundareshwar and Meenakshi. They are the incarnations of Shiva and Parvati. Sundareshwar is consecrated at the temple entrance, and Meenakshi on the other side.

The Meenakshi Temple is small and well-maintained. The Meenakshi Temple is a miniature temple version of the original Meenakshi Amman Temple, Madurai, Tamilnadu. People who travel to Bannerghatta National Park make it a point to visit the Meenakshi Temple also. There are nearly fifty temples, including Raghavendra Swamy temple, in the vicinity of Hulimavu and surrounding areas.

After visiting the Meenakshi Temple, visitors can also visit Sri Champakdham Swamy temple, Sri Narasimha Swamy temple, and Sri Suvarnamukhi Kalyani temple, the oldest temple in Bannerghatta.
