Introduction about the Bidar Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy Temple

Bidar Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy Temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu and is located in manichoola Hill, Bidar.

Narasimha swami is an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. He is half lion and half human who appeared in front of Prahalad from a pillar. He appeared to kill Hiranyakashipu, a demon who wanted to kill his son Prahalad because he was a great devotee of Lord Vishnu.

The demon once asked Prahalad where his Lord is and if he is present in the pillar. Prahalad then smiled and nodded yes and said that Lord is present everywhere. Hiranyakashipu then went ahead to kill his son, and at that very moment, Lord took the form of Narasimha and appeared from the pillar. The Lord lifted the demon in the air, thrashed him on his thigs, and tore his chest apart with his claws.

The Lord had to take this avatar because the demon had a boon that no man, woman, or animal could kill him; any weapon couldn’t kill him and neither on Earth nor in Sky. That is why the Lord killed him in such a way that met the conditions of his boon.

Why Is It Called An Adventurous Temple?

This temple is adventurous because the Lord resides in a cave, and water reaches him from all ways. The cave remains filled with water, and the statue is at the end of the cave. Devotees hence walk in the water to reach the statue of the deity. The water remains up to 4-5 feet to walk in; only a limited number of people can go at a time.

The Legend Of Jalsura

The legend says that after killing the demon Hiranyakashipu, the Lord came to this cave to kill a demon named jalasura. Since jalasura was a devotee of Lord Shiva, the Lord asked Narasimha not to kill the demon but to bless him and stay in the cave.

The Lord accepted the request and blessed the demon. The flowing water is jalasura, which remains at the feet of the Lord. There is also a Shiva Lingam in the cave, and the temple is called Dharani Narasimha swami temple. This place is also equal to Tirumala Tirupathi Devasthanam. The entry to the cave starts at 10 am and continues till 5 pm.
