Introduction to the Mata Lal Devi Temple

Mata Lal Devi Temple is in Rani Ka Bagh, Amritsar, Punjab. It is one of the most visited places in Amritsar, and it was built in memory of Pujya Mata Ji. The temple is also called Sheesh Mahal because of its grand interior mirrorwork.

This saintly lady was born in Pakistan on February 21, 1923.

Pujya Mata Ji's parents were Shri Har Jas Mall, a businessman, and her mother, Shrimati Maya Devi. Soon after their fourth daughter's birth, her parents visited Chintpurni temple in Himachal Pradesh.

The temple priest predicted that the girl was not an ordinary child, and he informed them about Pujya Mata Ji's divine powers.

Her family members were stunned on hearing his prediction. At first, they could not believe it, but after experiencing Pujya Mata Ji's miracles, the family started accepting her as a saintly mother. It is said that Mata Ji ate only fruits and milk throughout her life.

The Architecture of the Mata Lal Devi Temple

The Mata Lal Devi Temple was built in 1989. It is dedicated to Mata Lal Devi Ji or Pujya Mata Ji, born in Lahore, Pakistan. However, after the Indo-Pak partition, she came to Amritsar. Mata Lal Devi attained Nirvana in Amritsar in 1994. The Mata Lal Devi Temple resembles the Vaishno Devi temple of Jammu and Kashmir.

The inner walls of the entire temple complex have intricately carved idols of various deities. Paintings depicting her story are also displayed around the Mata Lal Devi Temple. Visitors can see many idols and artefacts here. .

After crossing artificial tunnels, stairs, and pathways, visitors can reach the sanctum of Mata Lal Devi through a man-made cave by crawling or bowing in it. This watery cave is similar to the Vaishno Devi temple. People who cannot visit the actual shrine can visit here. Colorful mirrors in the hallway sparkle with lights that adorn the temple's interiors.

Visitors can find the "Bhairav Ghati" next to the Pindi Darshan. Without his blessings, the holy trip to the temple is not complete. Over 1,000 people visit the temple daily, regardless of caste and creed.

There are 12 auspicious Jyotirlingas in the Mata Lal Devi Temple.
