Introduction to the Dhingu Mata Temple

The Dhingu Mata Temple is at the center of the Sanjauli hill in Shimla, Himachal Pradesh. From the top of the temple, visitors can enjoy a beautiful view of Shimla, the valley of Naldehra, and other outlying mountains.

According to the legend, the deity appeared in a king's dream and asked him to build a temple for her. So, the king built the striking Dhingu Mata Temple on the hilltop.

The Architecture of the Dhingu Mata Temple

The Dhingu Mata Temple features the Himachali architectural style. Devotees ascend a flight of 300 pink steps to reach the temple. A few shops sell Pooja items before the temple. The temple is rectangular is shape and built with wood, stone, and glass. Stone and glass bands decorate the walls. The temple roof is also built with glass and wood. There are two bronze lion idols before the temple door.

It is a 200-year-old temple. Durga, the primary deity, is at the center of the temple hall. There is a separate shrine for a big Shiva Lingam. Since the temple is in Dhingu, it became known as Dhingu Mata Temple. Many other idols are also installed and guarded within glass doors.

There is a Yagna Kund before the main shrine. The Akhand Jyoti (eternal flame) has been burning continuously in the Dhingu Mata Temple for many years, a mystical element. Tourists from across the country visit the temple curiously to see the Jyoti. Benches are around the temple for devotees to sit and relax. Flower pots on either side of the walking path give a pretty look. The temple offers delicious food in Langar every Sunday.

March-June and July-September are the best time to visit the Dhingu Mata Temple.

Dhingu Mata Temple Timings

The Dhingu Mata Temple is open from 6.30 am to 8.00 pm in summer and from 7.00 am to 6.30 pm in winter.
