Nine Mantras for Nine Nights of Navaratri

Navaratri is a festival celebrated with great enthusiasm all over the country. It is Nava Ratri, the festival of nine nights when grand worships are done to the Goddess Durga and her various forms.

Here, let us get to know about the Mantras that devotees chant for receiving the grace of the different aspects of the Goddess, on each of the days of the festival.  

Navaratri First Day – worship is offered to Goddess Shailaputri, who is believed to have been born as the daughter of the great mountain Himalayas.  

The hymn dedicated to her is called Goddess Shailaputri Mantra and reads as –

Om Hreem Shri Shailaputri Durgaaye Namaha

It is believed that the chanting of this hymn can earn for the devotees, the blessings of the Goddess, clear diseases and afflictions, and bestow them with healthy lives.

Navaratri Second Day – it is Goddess Brahmacharini, who is prayed to on this day. She is the ascetic form of the divine mother and fasting is believed to be the most ardent worship that can be offered to her on that day.

Goddess Brahmacharini Mantra is recited in her honor, and it runs as -    

Om Hreem Shri Brahamacharini Durgaaye Namaha

Devotees believe that its chanting can bless them with longevity.

Navaratri Third day – is dedicated to Goddess Chandraghanta. A crescent Moon is seen on her forehead, and her name is said to have emanated out of this feature.

Om Hreem Shri Chandra Ghanta Durgaaye Namaha

The above mantra is the Goddess Chandraghanta Mantra chanted in her praise. Reciting it with faith, it is believed, can relieve people from the trials and tribulations of life, and provide them with peace and joy.

Navaratri Fourth day — the day’s worship is done to Goddess Kushmanda, from whom the whole universe is said to have emerged out.
Goddess Kushmanda Mantra is recited in her honor, which is as under –

Om Hreem Shri Kushmanda Durgaaye Namaha

This hymn is capable of blessing people with intelligence and wisdom.        

Navaratri Fifth DaySkanda Mata, the mother of Skanda, the heroic commander of the Deva army is the Durga form worshipped on this day.

Om Hreem Shri Skanda Mata Durgaaye Namaha

Praying to the Goddess with this Skanda Mata Mantra chanting can give good health and fulfill true desires.

Navaratri Sixth Day – this day is dedicated to Goddess Katyayani, born as the daughter of sage Katyayan.

Om Hreem Shri Katyayani Durgaaye Namaha

The above mantra is the Goddess Katyayani Mantra. The reciting of the hymn with devotion can improve the attraction and appeal of the devotees.  

Navaratri Seventh day - It is Devi Kaalaratri, who is worshipped on this day. Her name means ‘dark night’ and true to this, she is depicted as being dark-complexioned.

The hymn dedicated to her is Goddess Kaalaratri Mantra, which reads as

Om Hreem Shri Kaala Ratri Durgaaye Namaha

It is believed that reciting this Mantra and praying to the Goddess can relieve people of fears and sufferings.   

Navaratri Eighth DayMaha Gauri is the Goddess for the day, who is portrayed to be very fair and extremely good-looking.

Om Hreem Shri Maha Gauri Durgaaye Namaha
Sarva Mangala Mangalye Shive Sarvartha Sadhike
Sharanyei Trymbake Gauri Narayani Namosthute

This is the Goddess Maha Gauri Mantra which sings the praise of the Goddess.

Her worship with this mantra can make the lives of the devotees successful in all respects.  

Navaratri Ninth Day – the last day of Navaratri is the important Navami day and is dedicated to the worship of Goddess Siddhidatri. She is believed to be the storehouse of siddhis, the accomplishments.

Om Hreem Shri Siddhidatri Durgaaye Namaha

This is the Goddess Siddhidatri Mantra chanted for pleasing the Goddess. She is a wish-fulfiller who can help people achieve their ambitions and also remove fears including that of the dreaded death.
