On Shani Amavasya, we worship, invoke, and pacify Lord Bhairava and Lord Shani to eliminate all negativity and evil eyes in our lives. On Thai Amavasya, people take holy baths and do all the Vedic rituals to please and appease their ancestors and invoke their blessings and protection. It is very popular in Tamil Culture. Thousands of people take a dip in holy water at Rameshwaram and visit the Agnitheertham Kadarkarai (sea coast) in the morning to offer pujas to their dead ancestors. Special prayers are also offered to the Navagrahas temple at Devipattinam near Rameshwaram. In Rameshwaram, a special procession carries out the murtis of Lord Shiva, lord Sri Rama, and Maa Sita from the Sri Ramanathaswamy Temple reaches Agnitheertham on the day, and special prayers and pujas are done.
