Introduction to Anna Abishekam

Anna Abhishekam is a religious ceremony that involves bathing a Hindu deity with cooked rice. This ritual is performed once a Year on the Full Moon Day in the Tamil month of Aippasi (mid-Oct to mid-Nov) on Lord Shiva in the form of Shiva Lingam in all South Indian Shiva temples. It is believed that performing this ritual can help you overcome all the problems in life. This ceremony is also referred to as Shiva Abhishekam or Maha Anna Abhishekam and is conducted in many Shiva temples throughout South India, especially in Tamil Nadu.

Significance of Anna Abhishekam

Rice is not just a staple food but also a symbol of life, prosperity, and richness, as per Sacred texts. It is considered to be Lord Shiva's favorite item during the hydration ceremony, where he is bathed with 11 Sacred items. One of these Sacred items is rice, which holds great significance in our lives.

 Anna Abhishekam is an annual ritual that is performed as a gesture of gratitude to Lord Shiva, who is believed to be the protector of all life forms and the five elements of nature. The significance of rice lies in the fact that it is a product of the union of all five elements of nature - land, water, wind, sky, and energy from the Sun.

 Through Anna Abhishekam, we acknowledge the Divine role of rice in our lives and express our gratitude towards Lord Shiva. It is believed that the food we consume has an impact on our mind and body, and hence, rice is considered to be a sacred and important item.

Significance of the Day:

On October 8, 2023, the Moon will be in waxing condition(Shukla Paksha) in Aries sign under the Ashwini constellation(Star lord-Ketu). It is also the full Moon day-night(Purnima) transiting in Aries sign in the Ashwini constellation under "Vajra" and "Siddhi" yoga, making this Day promising for appeasing lord Shiva. Moon will be transiting in Ketu's own constellation, "Ashwini in Aries Sign, which will be encouraging for invoking lord Shiva's bliss, especially his Rudra Avatar and Lord Muruga. Worshiping Lord Shiva and lord Muruga on this Day may nullify or eradicate the ill effects of Rahu-Ketu from your life.

 Significance of Poornima (Full Moon):

On October 28, 2023, the Full Moon will transit in Ketu's Nakshatra in the Zodiac sign of Mars, Aries. Their lord is Moon and Mars, under very auspicious Siddhi yoga, making this extraordinarily encouraging and promising to invoke the blessings of Lord Shiva, lord Muruga, and Lord Hanuman on Saturday. The Day is very promising for spiritual pursuit and encouraging the fulfillment of worldly wishes as it falls on "Anna Abhishekam" Day. It is "Sharad Purnima" Day, so this Day is very auspicious to attain the bliss of lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi through observing fast and chanting or listening to "Satyanarayan Katha."

 Significance of Partial Lunar Eclipse:

A partial lunar eclipse will happen on October 28, 2023, on this auspicious "Anna Abhishekam" Day, as the Moon will be in 1-degree grasp and axis of Rahu- Ketu. Also, there will be the aspect of Saturn on the Moon in the Aries sign. However, there will not be any malefic influence or negativity on this partial lunar eclipse Day as it is happening in the Aries sign, whose lord Mars will be aspecting Moon and its own sign Aries on this very Day from a 180-degree angle in the Libra sign. The Moon under the waxing phase in Siddhi yoga will be strong and powerful.   • Wash your home with saltwater and Sacred water early in the Morning.
  • Do charity and donate food, money, and clothes on this Day.
  • Keep celibacy on this Day.
  • Eat Fruits, curd, and yogurt during Day time.
  • Observe fast and recite Savitri Satyavan or Satya-Narayan Vrat Katha.
  • Shower twice on this Day during the Morning and Evening.
  • Pacify lord Shiva and seek forgiveness for your past sins and negative Karma through a hydration ceremony at your home or Shiva Temple.
  • Only consume milk and fruit during the daytime.
  • Feeding birds, crows, cows, and dogs on this Day will remove some of your sins.
  • Do Pooja, Homa in the name of Lord Shiva with Sacred rituals and meditative mode chants of Mantra at home or Shiva Temple.
  • Feeding the poor with food and water can also bestow their Divine blessings upon you.
  • Donating clothes, fruits, and sweet milk food items to poor people and Brahmin priests will be very promising.
  •  Don't:- Do not wear black or brown color clothes on this Day.

  • Abstain from using foul language and false promises on this Day.
  • Avoid taking a loan on this Day.
  • Do not use leather items on this Day.
  • Do not eat or let anyone eat meat or non-veg food in the family.

  • Do not eat salty food on this Day, and keep fast if possible.
  • Do not wear black or grey clothes or leather products on this Day.
  • Stay away from cosmetics and wear simple yellow and white new clothes on this Day.
