The Mehandipur Balaji Temple is in the foothills of the Aravalli hills, Dausa district, Rajasthan, and is dedicated to Hanuman. This mighty Hindu deity is also famously known as Balaji, hence the temple's name. Devotees staunchly believe that Mehandipur Balaji Temple has magical powers.
Hence, thousands of devotees visit the temple daily to seek relief from black magic. It is the right place to exorcise ghosts and evil spirits.
As per legend, over 200 years ago, a person from Mehandipur had a darshan of Balaji, the childhood form of Hanuman, in his dream. He dug at a particular place in the forest and found an ancient idol of Balaji there. It was "Swayambu," or self-manifested.
Following this, a small temple was built at the same place where the Balaji idol was installed. Gradually, people started visiting the temple, which is now a massive Mehandipur Balaji Temple.
According to another legend, an ancestor of the 11th-century saint, Ganesh Puri, dreamt of Balaji and told him to build a temple for three powers: Ghate Wale Balaji, Pretraj Sarkar, and Bhairav Nath. Hence, the Mehandipur Balaji Temple was constructed here. It gradually developed into a small village; now, this temple is between two small hills.
The Mehandipur Balaji Temple features the Rajput architectural style. The temple complex is vast and has many small and big shrines. The main temple enshrines the ancient idol of Balaji. The walls of the temple have striking sculptures of deities and religious paintings.
Pretaraj and Bhairav Baba have separate shrines in the temple complex. These temples feature the Rajasthani architectural style.
The Balaji idol in Mehandipur Balaji is considered to be the childhood form of Hanuman Ji. Devotees worship him here by offering him mustard oil and vermilion as part of the unique Pooja.
Devotees strongly believe that Balaji protects his devotees from hostile powers, sorcery, and evil eyes. Hence, devotees who come here mainly pray for protection and salvation.
Generally, temples are well-known for their Prasad. However, Mehandipur Balaji Temple does not offer Prasad. People believe that Hanuman can relieve all their problems. Visitors buy the black balls from outside the temple and wrap them around their bodies five times before throwing them in the ritual fire. Later, they seek blessings from Hanuman, the redeemer of all crises.
Unlike other temples, visitors cannot hear the sound of temple bells here. Soon after entering the premises, they can only hear the screams of possessed men and women.
Hanuman Jayanti, Dussehra, Gupt Navratri, Chaitra Navratri, and Bhadrapada Shukla Paksha Chaturdashi are grandly celebrated in the Mehandipur Balaji Temple with special Pooja rituals.
