Sri Boyakonda Gangamma Temple is in Chowdepalli (Mandal), Chittoor (District), Andhra Pradesh. Devotees from neighbouring states such as Tamil Nadu and Karnataka also come here and get blessings from the Goddess. The Temple exists on a hillock, which makes it even more appealing.
There are many legends related to this place. According to one, there were two bird-hunting tribes named Boyas and Yelikas; both used to live in the forest near the hillock. At that time, it was the ruling of Nawabs that both tribes always resisted.
Once both got into conflict, the Boya tribe couldn't see their people attacking the Muslims. They then approached the Goddess and prayed to her to protect them. The Goddess then appeared in the hillock and shielded the tribes against the Muslims. Since then, local people have believed in the power of the Goddess and considered her Shakti, the female force that runs the Universe. There is also a story that says that the Goddess tied the heads of all Muslim soldiers to the Banyan tree there.
Goddess Gangamma hence is considered the most powerful incarnation of Shakti. The Pushkarini water that flows here is very powerful. Devotees who want to know if their wish will be fulfilled or not can place a flower on the deity's head. If the flower falls on the right side, it means the wish will be fulfilled.
Couples who wish for a child come here and pray to the Goddess; this way, they get blessed and conceive soon. In 1990, the Endowments Department took over the management, and since then, it has managed and facilitated different things for the devotees.
Sri Boyakonda Gangamma Devi, who resides here, is the avatar of Shakti and the sister of Sri Venkateswara Swamy. This makes her one of the most important and recognised Goddesses, as important as the consort of the Lord.
This Temple was built when the Goddess first saved the two tribes against the army of Nawabs. Here Goddess answers devotees' wishes swiftly, which is why more and more devotees have faith in the Goddess.
Devotees will also find a well at the top of the hill. This is surprising because of geographical reasons. This water is healing, and it cures many ailments of the devotees. For centuries, this has been used by devotees and Ayurvedic practitioners to cure people's diseases. The local farmers consider this water Divine, and they sprinkle the same in their crops, considering the rich yield of the crops.
The Sri Boyakonds Ganagamma Temple is known for its architectural beauty. The tribal people built the Temple. Sand soap was used to construct the walls of the Temple. The flooring inside the Temple is done with natural marble stones. A well is constructed below the Temple, and it is considered to have Sacred water.
Navaratri Brahmostavam is celebrated grandly in this Temple. The Temple gets ready for the nine-day festival every year. People from neighbouring districts and states visit the Temple during Dasara's vacation. Special buses are operated during the festival.
The Temple is now known in the nearby regions, and it receives regular visitors and about 20,000 devotees in a day. The wonders of the Goddess spread along with the magical water, and people started visiting this Temple more often.
Devotees who come here say their wish to the Goddess, and they test it. For that, they place a flower on the head of the Goddess; this act is also called Aduguta Pushpam. The fall of the flower determines the wish. When the flower falls on the right side, it is considered auspicious; if not, the devotee might need to wait a little more, or it might not be a valid wish.
Hence people who are confused between two options or might not decide for themselves in an important matter take this flower test, and the Goddess clears their uncertainty.

From Chittoor and Tirupati it is 88 Km and 110 km away. You first need to reach Punganur from Tirupati. From there, you can take A.P.S.R.T.C Buses, which are only 21 km.
