Legend of Madhya Kailash Temple

Madhya Kailash Temple

The temple has many legends surrounding it. Dating back to the 1970s, Madhya Kailash Temple is famous for Pithru Pooja, or ancestor worship. The priest makes offerings to the Ananda Vinayakar idol daily. From there, he takes and offers to Vishnu, then to Shiva, where it is formed as Pindam. From there, the Pindam is taken to the Sun and finally fed to the crows.

The Architecture of Madhya Kailash Temple

It is the only temple in Tamilnadu constructed by followers of the cult of Ganapatyam, one of the five cults delineated by Adi Shankara. Venkata Ananda Vinayakar, the Moolavar, Shiva, Vishnu, Surya, and Devi shower blessings on devotees from their separate sanctums. In the sanctum of the main deity, devotees can worship one big Ganesha idol and one small idol of him on the front side. In the outer area of the main sanctum, Ananda Vinayaka and Narthana Vinayaka bronze idols are worshipped. Devotees can worship six bronze idols of Muruga called Arupadai Veedu in the Artha mandapam. Pilgrims and devotees can worship all idols one after the other.

The temple contains many small temples for other deities.

In Shweta Murti temple, two bronze idols of Shiva – Parvati, bronze idols of Adi Shankaracharya, and Appar are worshipped. Separate temples for Hanuman, Swarna Bhairavar, and Navagraha are found here. In Rajagopala Swamy Temple, bronze idols of Lakshmi-Narasimha, and a bronze idol of Krishna with cows are installed. Vasudeva, Suka, Markandeya, and Purushottama images are drawn on the wall surrounding the Rajagopala Swamy sanctum.

A Durga idol in the corridor (prakara), Vaishnavi Devi, and a pillar with four deities are seen here. There are eight bells in the temple. When there is a breeze, they start vibrating the musical notes Sa, Ri, Ga, Ma, Pa, Da, Ni, and Sa. On the day of Vinayaka Chathurthi, the Sun's rays fall directly on the presiding deity.

Devotees can worship all deities in different forms in the Madhya Kailash Temple.
