Sri Kabbalamma Temple

The legend tells us about the Goddess Kabbalamma, who wanted a place to stay. When she reached the village Kannalu, Basaveshwara let her reside there. However, the God Basaveshwara also conditions that the puja will first be offered to him and then to the Goddess.

The Temple was first visited by the local people only. In recent times, it has been known by many people, and now the Temple attracts a crowd from other areas. The village was also named after the deity of this Temple. There are about 28 villages here, and this Temple is considered significant in all these villages.

The Architecture of the Sri Kabbalamma Temple

You meet a rocky dome at the entrance supporting the mandapa's white building. There are walls surrounding the Temple and an arch as well. The Temple is built in Dravidian style consisting of the Mandapa and Gopuras.

The main deity resides in the central shrine. Other sculptures define the Nandi, a horse, and a small wooden chariot. There is a large stage where all the functions take place. The Temple speaks more beauty because the stone sculpture stretches from the gateway to the mandapas. These sculptures describe the legends and stories of the Temple.

Festivals in Sri Kabbalamma Temple

Kabbalamma Jatre is the most significant festival celebrated here. Devotees from all the surrounding areas flock here and witness the festival's beauty. The processions happen when the deity is arranged in the chariot and taken around the village.

Benefits of Worshipping in Sri Kabbalamma Temple

Devotees come here to get a glance at the Devi and worship her. They pray to the Devi about their well-being. It is believed that couples who face difficulties in their marital life come here and receive the blessings of the Goddess. The Goddess blesses them to have a harmonious marital life. A bull resides at this place; the animal is considered significant, too, and devotees take his blessings before leaving the Temple.

The bull is Basaveshwara, for which a particular ritual is performed. The one who wants to gain the blessings of the bull needs to sleep on the floor; the bull then steps over him. This practice is followed by kids who lie on the floor. Devotees then tie the currency or some coins with the bull's horns to receive its blessings and complete the ritual.
