Chilkur Balaji Temple is dedicated to Lord Balaji, one of the incarnations of Lord Vishnu. This temple is located on the banks of the Osman Sagar Lake in the town of Chilkur near Hyderabad. It is considered one of the oldest temples, which was built during by Madanna and Akkanna, who were ardent devotees of the Lord, and the uncles of Bhakta Ramadas, a renowned saint of India. This temple neither has Hundi, where the devotees can contribute money, nor any special Darshan for VIP. This temple is also known as Visa temple, where a lot of devotees would worship the Lord Balaji to gain Visa. The number of visitors who come to this temple is almost 75, 000 to one lakhs every day.
There are several legends connected with this temple. It is believed to be built by an ardent devotee of Lord Vishnu, who was unable to go to Thirupathi Balaji temple and hence built a temple with a similar deity. The temple has to face a lot of challenges from the government, to stay out of the governance of India. It is a privately managed temple.
Chilkur Balaji temple is built in the Dravidian style of architecture. There are separate shrines for Lord Balaji Venkateswara, along with Goddess Sridevi and Goddess Bhoodevi. The temple has been renovated several times.
All the ten days of Navaratri is celebrated with high reverence. Other important festivals are Deepavali, Hanuman Jayanthi, Sri Rama Navami, Ugadi, and Makar Sankranthi are important festivals. There are other special festivals like Anakota, Brahmotsavams, and Poolangi which gain a lot of importance. Devotees from all parts of the world would come to this temple, and visit the lord.
This place is highly mystical, and is called as “Visa Balaji Temple”. Many people who want Visa, would come and pray here. Lord would also fulfill their wish. It is important to do “11 Pradakshinas”, where it is called ambulations. A devotee has to do 108 ambulations, once their wish is fulfilled. Many people visit this temple, and find that there is a supreme force which connects them with the cosmos, and grants them their wish.
The Nearest airport to reach this temple is in the city of Hyderabad which is almost 30 Km from the temple. Once reached Hyderabad airport, it is optimal to choose to travel through roadways. There are a lot of private taxis available.
The nearest railway station is in Hyderabad, which is located at almost 45 Km away from the temple premises.
This temple is well connected with buses of local and state transports, operated by both government and private. Other than buses, Autos, and taxis are also available.
