Cheruvugattu temple or Sri Jadala Ramalingeshwara Temple presides on Lord Shiva as its prime deity. The temple is one of the popular Shiva temples in Hyderabad and Telangana. The temple receives a major crowd on every New moon; devotees come from various corners and sleep in the temple. People come here to receive the blessings of the lord, and their prayers get answered.
There are three stones on which the deity's idol is installed. People can go to the top by using the steps. There is also a narrow passage alternative to the steps. However, going through the passage has its own significance; people believe that the narrow passage washes away all the sins of the devotees.
The temple is located 85 KM from Hyderabad. This temple is called Mudu Gundlu because it is situated on three big rocks. People practice caution while climbing these stones; women and children must be extra careful. People must carry their milk to perform the Abhishekam to the lord. However, if they carry coconuts, it is not allowed to break there.
As per the legend, sage parushu ramudu established this structure during trethayugam. Creating this Shiv lingam was a part of his pilgrimage. He established a total of 108 shiva lingas. The sage started his journey when a cruel king stole his cow Kamdhenu from his father named Jamadagni. This incident happened in the absence of the sage. When he returned home, his father narrated the incident, which made the sage furious, and he took revenge on the king and his army. He went on with his axe, and when he returned home with Kamdhenu, his father asked him to go on a pilgrimage to wash his sins.
Parushu ramudu left the place, but when he returned, he found his father dead. Jamadhagni was killed by the king who stole the cow. This angered the sage again, and he killed all the Kshatriyas kings. Then he started his pilgrimage and established 108 Shiva lingams during his journey; one of these is situated in the Chruvugattu temple.
Jatara is a significant festival here and during which thousands of people visit. The whole environment echoes with the chants of Hara Hara Mahadeva" and "om Namaha Shivaya." These chants happen in all the parts of the Nalgonda district, and devotees in the temple form long lines to glance at Lord Shiva.
The Kalyanam of the marriage function of Sri Parvati Jadala Ramalingeshwara Swamy happens here. During the cold winds, devotees manage to take a bath in the koneru, and they climb the hill. This celestial marriage is worth all the effort and troubles. The entire temple echoes the Kalyanam Vedic songs, and people later perform sacred rituals.
