The Temple is dedicated to the deity Swayambhu Murthy. It is about 10 km from Sathymangalam and 75 km from Erode. The Temple is located at the bottom of the Western Ghats, and many poojas and rituals of significance are performed, like the Uchikalam, Kalashanthi, Arthasamam, and Sayaratchai.

Legends of Bannari Amman Temple

The legend of Bannari Amman Temple goes that the villagers wanted to build a Temple here during the British Era. But, the person in charge didn't give permission to the villagers. Soon he became ill and vomited. He was then permitted to cut the trees to celebrate the festival in the Temple. The in charge was relieved with the Temple's holy water and asked for forgiveness from the Temple.

This is a South facing Temple in a dense forest. The vegetation grows in three directions: west, north, and south. There are mountains and hills, making it even more beautiful.

It is believed that once there was nothing in this place, the villagers started building a structure with a herb called "Kanangu." By then, they had created a roof and replaced it with tiles. They made use of the funds and renovated the structure again and again. Now the Temple has a sanctuary with a dome on top.

A Shobanana Mandapam is a sculptural beauty that has 24 pillars. Then there is Artha Mandapam and Maha Mandapam, which enrich the overall looks of the Bannari Amman Temple.

There are many other temples all around the Temple. Many other deities like Bommairayan, Ganesha, Sarugu Mariamman, Madeshwara, and Muniyappa reside here.

There is the Bommarayan Temple on the west side of Artha Mandapam. On the Temple's south side, Goddess Mateshwaran resides. Near the Temple's pond, there is a small Temple facing west. There is a pit built on the west side of the Temple; here, water is stored in the monsoon.

Towards the left of the Temple, you can see the God Vandimuniyappar. This was an important deity for Cholas, and they used to pay homage here.

Festivals Of Bannari Amman Temple

The Kundam festival occurs during the Tamil month of Panguni. This is the most famous festival, during which devotees visit. The whole place is decorated, and the environment becomes merrier to visit. The district also gets a holiday during this pottery festival.

Other festivals that are conducted are the Golden Chariot Festival, Murupooja Festival, and Thiruvilakku pooja. The donation of yellow water, Thiruvillakku Puja, the Kundam Festival, and the Maru Puja are also some of the famous festivals celebrated. Here the devotees offer sand as an offering.

When it is time for Thiruvilakku Puja, many women devotees participate. People from all over South India visit the Temple to respect the Goddess.

How To Reach?
By Air

The nearest airport to Sathyamangalam is Coimbatore, about 57 km. There are many flights from cities like Tirupati, Bangalore, Calicut, Cochin, etc., to Coimbatore. Take a cab from the airport to reach the Temple.

By Rail

If you prefer to travel via train, the nearest stations are Mettupalayam which is 45 km, and Karaimadai, which is 47 km away from the Temple.

By Road

The Nearest Bus Station is Satyamangalam, about 13.00 km from the Temple. If you are coming from Coimbatore, the buses run from 5:30 am to 9 pm. Get to Satyamangalam & Chamarajanagar junctions as more buses run from there.
