Trichy is home to many temples. Pilgrims flock here to worship at Shaiva and Vaishnava temples. The Sri Ranganathar Temple, Jambukeshwarar Temple, Samayapuram Mariamman Temple, Vekkali Amman Temple, and Uthammar Koil, and Akkaraipatti Saibaba Temple are some of the temples located in Trichy. Akkaraipatti Saibaba Temple lies in Akkaraipatti village, Samayapuram, Mannachanallur, Trichy. This is one of the largest temples for Shiridi Sai Baba in South India. Sai Baba was a revered Saint who lived in the 19th century. 'Shiridi of South India' is another name for the temple.
The legend behind the temple says that, once Shiridi Sai Baba appeared in the dreams of the Managing trustee, K. Chandramohan, and told him to build a temple for him in Akkaraipatti. So he started the construction of the Akkaraipatti Sai Baba temple at the end of 2015, and it was completed in 2019.
The beautiful Akkaraipatti Sai Baba Temple sprawls over a 35000 sq. ft area. Mr. K Chandramohan, Managing Trustee, Sree Sai Karpagaviruksha Trust, along with the Chairman of NTC Group of Companies, planned and designed the temple. The temple was consecrated, and in the presence of many spiritual leaders and visitors, Kumbabishekam was performed in Akkaraipatti Sai Baba Temple on 20-01-2020.
This temple has three floors. Its basement area extends up to 12,000 sq. ft. A 5-feet tall Shiva Linga is in the basement and is meant for yoga and meditation practices. The spacious ground floor occupies 13,500 sq. ft. A marble idol of Sai Baba, weighing 2 tons, is on the ground floor. The first floor has 6,500 sq. ft space. The devotees can watch religious events and Poojas on the ground floor from the first floor.
Inside the temple, devotees can worship Ganesha and other deities. On the temple's walls, one can see mural paintings of deities. Various pictures painted on the false ceilings of the Akkaraipatti Sai Baba Temple illustrate the deity's manifestations. The architectural brilliance is seen in the conventional ornamental works. The gold-foiled sheets cover the external domes, which makes the temple glitter at night. Around the temple, the presence of 20 chhatris elevates its architectural elegance. Aged people can use the two ramps on the ground floor for easier walking.
January 1, Pongal, Ganesh Chathurthi, Gokulashtami, Sri Vijayadasami, Rama Navami, Guru Poornima Vyasa Pooja, Diwali, Karthigai Dheepam and Shirdi Sai Baba's Mahasamadhi Day are grandly celebrated festivals in Akkaraipatti Sai Baba Temple.
Devotees light lamps, incense sticks, and dhoop and offer flowers, sweets, and fruits to please the deity. Performing Poojas, particularly on Thursday evenings, pleases him.
As he always preached peace and honesty, one can pray to him for peace of mind. Devotees believe that worshipping the deity in the temple blesses them with peace and prosperity.
