In Vedic astrology, a “nakshatra” is one among 27 “lunar mansions,” or astral bodies. These are located at different points along the Earth’s ecliptic plane. A person’s nakshatra can indicate many things about their personality and their life, including habits, key personality traits, and also their future. To know which nakshatra you are born under, you need to know your place, date, and time of birth. Using a nakshatra calculator is one easy way to find your nakshatra. You can find many such nakshatra calculators online, and they are free. All you have to do is just enter the time, date, and place of your birth. The calculator will do the rest. Nakshatra calculator may also offer other important astrological information like your Rasi/Moon sign, birthstone, etc.
The 27 birth Nakshatras are– Ashwini, Bharani, Krittigai, Rohini, Mrigasira, Thiruvathirai, Punarpoosam, Poosam, Ayilyam, Magam, Pooram, Uthram, Hastam, Chithirai, Swathi, Visakham, Anusham, Kettai, Avittam, Sadayam, Poorattathi, Uthrattathi, and Revathi. Each nakshatra corresponds to a particular Moon phase of the moon and its position in orbit. It influences the personality and fortunes of the person born under it.

Using the Nakshatra Calculator
In the slots provided, enter the day, month, and year of birth. The order of the month and day may vary, depending on your place of residence, so make sure that both the details are in the proper slots. There may be boxes for the hour and minute of birth, and also to specify whether it was in the morning or evening. If AM or PM is not mentioned correctly, the results may not be accurate. Some calculators may even want you to specify your time zone for a more precise reading.
The next step is to enter the birth location. In the space provided, type the name of the country/ state/ territory and city/town/ village where you were born. Sometimes, the calculator may have a drop-down list. In that case, click the birthplace column and choose the place of birth from the options given.
Not all nakshatra calculators with such drop-down lists may include your exact birthplace. If so, find a different calculator and input the information manually.
Click/tap the button found at the bottom of the calculator where labels like “Enter,” “Submit,” or “Find Your Nakshatra” may be given. Once you do this, a chart that shows the name of your nakshatra, its associated Hindu deity, and symbol, will be generated. There may also be a brief description of your nakshatra’s major characteristics.
