What are Yogas and Doshas?
There are many auspicious yogas in Vedic astrology that can bring great success and wealth to a person in whose horoscope they are found. Some examples are Pancha Maha Purusha Yoga, Sasa Maha Yoga, Gajakesari Yoga, etc. These Yogas are combinations of two or more planets. Sometimes, even one planet can form an auspicious yoga.
The counterpoint to Yoga in astrology is the Dosha. These are inauspicious planetary placements or combinations which can cause many problems in a person’s life. Some examples are
Kaal Sarp Dosha, Guru Chandal Dosh, Nadi Dosh, Kemdrum Dosh, and so on. To understand the impact of these Yogas and Doshas, the person’s birth chart needs to be analyzed in detail.

There are many reasons why Doshas are formed in a horoscope. If there is a curse in one’s family lineage, or if the native has done some bad karma in their past life, for instance, such Doshas are formed. It is like karmic payback by which one pays the price for sins committed in the previous birth.
Kaal Sarp Dosh
Among the Doshas, one that strikes fear in many people’s hearts when found in their natal charts is the
Kaal Sarp Dosh. It is sometimes called Naga Dosha. Sarp or Naga means ‘snake’. It is called so, because Rahu and Ketu, the shadow planets and lunar nodes, are depicted as the head and tail of a snake in Vedic astrology.
In this Dosha, the Ascendant/Lagna and all the major planets, like the Sun, Moon, Jupiter, Mercury, Venus, Mars, and Saturn, are hemmed in between Rahu and Ketu. In effect, all the planets will be in the grip of these two malefic planets. As a result, the other planets will not be able to give any good results.
Rahu and Ketu are karmic planets that bring results according to our past life karma and unfulfilled desires. So past life karma will play a large role in the native’s current life. Kala Sarpa Dosha can have many adverse effects. The person’s life will lack joy, peace, and stability. However, it is also seen that many successful people also have this Dosha. Other factors too come into play, so it depends on the individual horoscope. Also, depending on the type of
Kala Sarpa Dosha, after a certain age, the adverse effects can fade away, and there might be progress in the native’s life.
Kala Sarpa Dosha is of 12 types. They are:
Anant Kaal Sarp Dosh
Kulik Kaal Sarp Dosh
Vasuki Kaal Sarp Dosh
Shankphal Kaal Sarp Dosh
Padma Kaal Sarp Dosh
Mahapadma Kaal Sarp Dosh
Takshak Kaal Sarp Dosh
Karkotak Kaal Sarp Dosh
Shankhachood Kaal Sarp Dosh
Ghatak Kaal Sarp Dosh
Vishdhar Kaal Sarp Dosh
Sheshnag Kaal Sarp Dosh
The severity of each Dosha may be different. They also create different kinds of problems in a person’s life. Here are some of the problems caused by
Kala Sarpa Dosha:
Delays and obstacles
Important work gets stalled indefinitely
Lack of mental peace
Low self-esteem and poor self-confidence
Poor health, reduced life span.
Loss of wealth, a life of poverty
Losses in business, lack of job
Unwanted anxiety and tension
Festering family disputes
Betrayal by friends and colleagues
No support from relatives and friends
In other words, nothing seems to go right for these natives. They will always be worried and anxious about the future. When the Mahadasha or the Antardasha of Rahu and Ketu is under way, the problems may become very severe. In some cases, the Dosha can even be fatal.
Thus, it is important to perform some timely remedies to avert a major disaster. Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvathy are the deities of Rahu. Offering prayers to them can reduce the adverse effects of this Dosha.
Remedies for Kala Sarpa Dosham
Chant the Panchakshari Mantra, ‘Om Nama Shivaya’ 108 times daily. It can please Lord Shiva, who has the power to remove Doshas in the native’s life. Chanting should be done with devotion and without a break.
Perform Shiva Pooja. Even a simple Shiva Pooja in which one chants a certain Stotra of Lord Shiva can reduce the impact of this Dosha.
Visit temples like Trimbakeshwar in Nashik (Maharashtra), Mahakaleshwar in Ujjain (M.P.), Srikalahasti in Andhra Pradesh, and worship Lord Shiva.
Chant Mahamritunjaya Mantra daily or do it at any of the abovementioned temples 1008 times. This, too, can reduce the effects significantly.
Devotees observe Raksha Panchami or Rekha Panchami on Bhadrapada Krishna Paksha Panchami, usually two days after Kajari Teej (Odisha), for worshipping Batuk Bhairav, who is an incarnation of Shiva. People who have Kaal Sarp Dosh should worship Shiva on this day.
Donate to poor people, monthly once, especially on the day of your birth star or Nakshatra, every month. This can bring the blessings of God and remove the curse.
People with Kala Sarpa Dosha should have meals only in their kitchen.
Give food to the poor.
Conclusion
Doshas in your birth chart, formed by the combination of malefic planets, will not allow the positive things in the horoscope to bear fruit. They cast a blemish on the horoscope. If there are many negative Doshas in your horoscope, they will cause many ill effects simultaneously. Hence, it is important to identify such Doshas, know when they will be activated, and perform the appropriate remedy or karma correction to prevent them from getting activated and causing havoc in your life.
