Rahu and Ketu are two heavenly bodies who do not have physical existence. Rahu and Ketu actually represent the northern and southern lunar nodes respectively, that is, the points of intersection of the orbits of the Sun and the Moon. Hence, these body-less entities are known as shadow planets.
Mythology regards Rahu as the severed head of a snake and Ketu, as a headless half planet and the tail of that snake. Vedic Astrology considers both Rahu and Ketu as important members of the family of Nava Grahas, the nine planets that strongly impact the lives of the people and holds that the study of their positions and movements, along with that of the other planets can reveal the past, present and the future of any individual.
Rahu and Ketu are both malefic planets, who normally generate fear in people. Though Rahu may fulfill desires, he can ruin things, stop ventures from fructifying at the very last moment and thus can cause frustrations. Ketu can make people undergo bitter experiences in life and become wiser out of it.

He has reddish bright complexion like vermillion. His face is like the Moon. His body is so bright and delightful with Ornaments. He gives comfort to Heaven itself. He has four hands which have Lotus, Abhayam, (first divine quality or fearlessness) (Shakthi,(Vel) and a Cock (rooster). He has applied Sandal and wears red color garments.
