Apparently the chief engineer associated with building a causeway linking the seven islands of Bombay faced several problems. The Devi appeared in his dream and instructed him to search the sea near Worli. He did so accordingly and duly retrieved an idol of the Devi from the sea, whereupon he built a temple dedicated to her. The construction of the project was taken up in earnest and successfully completed without a hitch.
