Naga Dosham Pariharam is a remedy for Naga Dosham in one’s horoscope, the curses of snakes, bad karma in previous lives, or a combination of all or any of these factors. Naga Dosham depends on the positions of Rahu and Ketu, the aspect or affliction of Shani in the birth chart. Naga Dosham is different from Kala Sarpa dosha.

The belief is that if Naga Dosha forms in a horoscope, the native might have engaged in acts of violence against Sarpas (snakes) in his past life. He might have troubled snakes or captured and used them for selfish ends, or he might have killed them in a past life. Due to these karmas, Naga Dosha forms in his horoscope. Hindus consider it to be the curse of the Nagas/Sarpas (serpent gods).

Naga Dosham in Astrology

Astrologically, Naga Dosha occurs when Rahu or Ketu is in the 1st, 2nd, 4th, 5th, 7th, and 8th houses in the birth chart of a person. When either of these two planets is in the 1st or 2nd house, the Dosha will have more effects and sometimes even unbearable damage to family, marriage, and lifespan.

Naga Dosha forms in every 6th horoscope as per the prevalent definition. A horoscope has 12 houses. So, the chances of Rahu sitting in the first house is 1 in 12, and the possibility of Ketu sitting in the first house is also 1 in 12. It means that the chances of either Rahu or Ketu occupying the 1st house are 1 in 6. Thus, Naga Dosham forms in every 6th horoscope. Rahu and Ketu are always placed 180 degrees apart, meaning they will occupy the 7th sign (house) with respect to each other. So, if one of them is in the 1st house of the horoscope, the other one will be in the 7th house of the same horoscope.

How Naga Dosham Impacts Marriage

When Rahu is in the 1st house, Ketu will be in the 7th house, as they are always 180 degrees apart in the birth chart. This placement causes delays in marriage. Similar effects are present when their positions are reversed.

When Rahu occupies the 2nd house, Ketu will be in the 8th house. This can cause the untimely death of the spouse and a second marriage. The same results are present when their positions are reversed.

Rahu/Ketu’s presence in the 5th house can lead to delays in childbirth.

Other Problems Caused by Naga Dosha

Naga Dosha may cause problems related to health, longevity, career, addictions, vices, psychological issues, black magic, otherworldly entities, evil spirits, etc., depending on the horoscope. Some natives may get married very late or not at all. Others may face major problems in marriages, including broken marriages.

Naga Dosha can bring many kinds of health problems. Some natives may become addicted to drugs. Others may have psychological disorders. Naga/Sarpa Dosha has an adverse effect on the native’s career or profession. There may be delays, failures, setbacks, money loss, job loss, ill repute, break in career, etc.

Once an astrologer confirms Naga Dosha in the horoscope, one needs to ascertain the strength of the Dosha. This can be calculated through the placements of Rahu and Ketu in various nakshatras, signs, and Navamshas and also through the influences of other planets (benefic and malefic) on Rahu and Ketu. The overall theme of the horoscope and running times of the Mahadashas can also affect the strength of the Dosha.

With respect to signs, when malefic Rahu is in Taurus or Virgo and malefic Ketu is in Scorpio or Pisces, the Dosha can be very strong. Rahu is exalted in Taurus and Virgo, while Ketu is exalted in Scorpio and Pisces. Hence in these cases, the Naga Dosha is likely to create major problems. But, when malefic Rahu is in Scorpio or Pisces, and malefic Ketu is in Taurus or Virgo, the Dosha can be weak. Rahu is debilitated in Scorpio and Pisces, while Ketu is debilitated in Taurus and Virgo. So, in these cases, the Dosha may not have serious repercussions. Also, the strength of Naga Dosha can vary, depending on the strength of Rahu and Ketu in various nakshatras, signs, and Navamshas.

If Rahu and/or Ketu have the influence of benefic planets due to any conjunction, the malefic effects of the Dosha may be less. But, if Rahu and/or Ketu have the influence of malefic planets due to conjunction, the malefic effects will be more intense.

If the horoscope, on the whole, is strong and benefic, the Dosha may not bring serious problems. But, if the overall horoscope is weak and/or malefic, it will inflict more damage.

With regard to the running times, when Mahadashas or planetary periods of benefic planets are in effect, the problems related to Naga Dosha may reduce. But during the Mahadashas of malefic planets (other than Rahu and Ketu), problems will increase. When the native is going through the Mahadashas of Rahu and Ketu, Sarpa Dosha is likely to inflict the maximum damage.
