Grahana Dosha

Introduction

The planets influence our lives by their positions in our natal chart at the time of our birth. Later, they continue to impact our lives when they are in transition. Derived from Sanskrit, dosha indicates physical disorders. In Vedic Astrology, doshas occur because of the planets’ unfavorable positions in the birth chart’s twelve houses. If malefic planets Mars, Saturn, Rahu, and Ketu are placed in specific houses, they tend to affect the horoscope’s good parts and create doshas. Mars creates maximum doshas.

Grahana Dosha

What is Grahana Dosha?

Grahana Dosa is a much – feared dosha in Vedic Astrology. Rahu and Ketu form this dosha. When a native is born during the Solar or Lunar eclipse, he/she has Grahana Dosha.

How Cosmic Alignment Creates Grahana Dosha

‘Grahan’ means eclipse. Grahana Dosha means the shadow planets (Chaya Grahas) Rahu or Ketu are in close conjunction with the Sun or Moon at the time of your birth, or if you are born during the eclipse. The Sun or Moon will come in the same house as Rahu or Ketu in a native’s birth chart or during the Lagna period. This means a newborn will have Grahana Dosha in the birth chart.

Some of the cosmic combinations that could occur are:

  • Purna Surya Grahana Dosha – When the Sun and Rahu are in the same House.
  • Purna Chandra Grahana Dosha – When the Moon and Rahu are in the same House.
  • Partial Surya Grahana Dosha – When the Sun and Ketu are in the same House.
  • Partial Chandra Grahana Dosha – When the Moon and Ketu are in the same House.

How Grahana Dosha Can Impact an Individual

Grahana Dosha is rather feared in Vedic Astrology. A native-born with Grahana Dosha in the birth chart may feel the adverse effects frequently.

  • Serious health concerns.

Home Remedies for Grahana Dosha

  • If you have Surya Grahana Dosha in your chart, then do Gayatri Mantra Japa 108 times daily at sunrise (7 a.m.), and more especially on Sundays. Offer Argya to the Sun daily in the morning while chanting the Gayatri (water oblation from a copper vessel is known as Argya).
  • If you have Chandra Grahana Dosha in your chart, chant Moon Mantras like ‘Om Somaaya Namaha’ or ‘Om Chandraaya Namaha’ 108 times a day, especially on Mondays.
  • If you have Surya Grahana Dosha, you can donate jaggery to priestly people on 7 consecutive Sundays during a good muhurat (muhurta).
  • If you have Chandra Grahana Dosha, you can donate milk on 4 consecutive Mondays during a good muhurat (muhurta).
  • Consult an astrologer and see if you can wear Ruby or Pearl and if you can keep a Chandra Yantra or Surya Yantra at home.
  • Pray to Vishnu and Shiva daily by chanting their mantras since Vishnu is said to rule over the Sun and comes from Sun’s lineage. Shiva is said to rule over the Moon.
  • If you have Chandra Grahana Dosha, you can also drink milk from a silver cup mixed with honey and turmeric at night, especially on Purnima (Full Moon) night.
  • If you have Surya Grahana Dosha, then drinking water from a copper vessel is very good.
