Goddess Durga was created by the Trinities to end an evil named Mahishasura since he had the boon that no man could kill him. Mahishasura didn’t think much that a woman can become the reason for his termination, and hence Goddess Durga was created to destroy Mahishasura.

Durga is the Goddess of power, strength, devotion, and love. She is the divine consort and beloved of Lord Shiva since she is the form of Goddess Parvati. Fertility, power, virtue, and asceticism all represent her.

All Gods and humans were praying; the Gods reached to the Trinity, Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva and requested them to put an end to the demon. The trinity gave it a thought, and to put an end to all the miseries, they created power, and Maa Durga manifested from that power as she was assigned to kill Mahishasura.
A fierce battle took place, and all the blood of the demon was falling on the ground. The demon also had a boon that with each droplet, a new demon will form; hence it was getting hard and hard to kill the demon entirely.
Goddess Durga then took her fierce and giant form. She started cutting the head of each demon produced from the droplets and drank every single blood drop of the demon. At last, she killed the demon with her Trident and drank all his blood.
This way, Mahishasura was killed forever by Goddess Durga. Durga is so compassionate; she even blessed the demon for liberation and the heavenly abode. This is why those who revere Goddess Durga get sanctified with her ultimate love and compassion that nothing can touch her devotees.
