Karthavirya Arjuna was a ruler of the Hehaya dynasty. He is believed to be a disciple of Dattatreya and also the incarnation of Lord Vishnu’s divine weapon, the Sudharshana Chakra. It is said that the Chakra became too proud and so, Vishnu wanted to humble him and teach him a lesson. It was Vishnu’s own incarnation, Parashurama, who killed him. Parashurama was also an incarnation of Vishnu.

Karthavirya Arjuna has great powers, as his images suggest. He has 1000 hands that hold bows and arrows, and he wears a crown and is garbed in clothes that are soaked in his enemies’ blood. Karthavirya Arjuna is said to give a devotee great wealth and power over people. Sacred texts claim that worshipping him can help recover stolen things, bring back loved ones who left you, lost wealth and other precious possessions, and also boost one’s fortunes.

Devotees perform Karthavirya Arjuna Homam and chant Karthavirya Stotram and Mantra to invoke his blessings and receive the above-mentioned benefits.

The Stotram given below supposedly helps one to recover stolen or snatched items. The Mantra should be used while meditating or performing Homa (fire sacrifice) for the deity.

 1.Om Karthaveeryarjuno nama
 Raja baahu sahasravan
 Thasya smarana mathrena
 Gatham nashtam cha labhyathe.

 Om Salutations to Karthaveeryarjuna,
 The king, with several hands,
 Just my remembering him,
The loss which occurred would be recovered.

2.Kartha veeryaha, khala dweshi, krutha, veeryo sutho, bali,
 Sahasra bahu, shatrugno, rakthavasa dhanurdhara

Karthavirya , hater of the wicked, son of Kruthavirya, strong one,
 Thousand-handed one, slayer of enemies,
One who lives in bloody battles , One who holds a bow.

3.Raktha gandho, Raktha malyo, Raja, smarthur , abheeshtada,
Dwasaaithani namani Kartha veeryasya ya padeth,

Sampad sthathra jayanthe jana sthathra vasamgatha,
Aanayathayasu doorastham kshema labha yutham priyam.

One who smells of blood, One who wears a garland of blood,
King, One who should be remembered, one who is desirable,
If these twelve names of Karthavirya are recited,
Wealth will accumulate there, people will be under their command,
Undesirable things will go away, and safety and profit will come close.

 4.Sahasra bahum, mahitham, sasaram sachapam,
Rakthambaram vi vidha Raktha kireeta bhoosham,
Choradhi dushta bhaya nasanam , ishta daantham,
Dhyayen maha bala Vijrumbitha Kartha veeryam

I meditate on the very strong and blossoming Karthavirya,
Who has a thousand hands, who is honored, holds bow and arrows,
Who is attired in bloody clothes, who is adorned with crowns soaked in blood,
Who destroys the fear of thieves and bad people and grants desires.

5.Yasya smarana mathrena Sarva dukha Kshayo bhaveth,
Yan naamani Maha veeraschaarjuna krutha viryvan.

As soon as one remembers, all sorrow would be destroyed,
And these names of the great hero would make
Brave people as great as Karthavirya Arjuna.

6.Haihayadhi- pathe , stotram sahasravruthi karitham ,
Vanchithartha pradham nrunam swarajyam sukrutham yadi.

This prayer of the Lord of the Hehaya clan, if recited a thousand times,
Would definitely fulfill all that is desired and also,
Get him back his own country if he has good fortune.

7.Ithi Kartha viryarjuna dwadasa nama stotram sampoornam
 Sri Krishanpanamasthu

Thus ends the prayer of the twelve names of Karthavirya Arjuna.

 Everything is submitted to Krishna.

The Mantra for Kartavirya Arjuna is given below:
