Kundli, an Introduction

It is widely believed, not without reason, that the universe is governed by divine laws and that everything that happens in our lives takes place for reasons generally beyond the comprehension of ordinary mortals.

But the ancients with their immeasurable wisdom developed through their assiduous observations and study that the cosmic bodies like stars and planets exercise a powerful influence over the people and their lives and that their careful analysis can tell us many things about the fundamental features of individuals. Further, these can also help to know about people’s past and present, and also delve into their future. Thus, this study can guide people to know what destiny has kept in store for them. This analysis done painstakingly over the ages has metamorphosized into the well-celebrated science known as astrology. This astrological system mainly operates with the help of a powerful tool known as the Kundli. This is nothing but the natal chart or the birth chart and is also called Janam Patrika or Horoscope.

Kundli’s Structure

Simply put, Kundli is an astrological diagram or chart, which represents in it, the placements of the heavenly bodies like the Sun, Moon, and the planets, as found at a particular point of time, at a specific location. This time and place will usually pertain to the date, time, and location of the birth of a person. This chart also contains other astrological aspects related to that moment. This is thus a map of heavenly bodies over a specific location at a particular moment in time, usually of a person. A Kundli is, therefore, a Karmic map unique to an individual.

The pathway or the area through which the planets move around in space is called the zodiac. This zone has 12 divisions, and these are known as the zodiac signs or Rasis. The Kundli is also divided into 12 sectors or ‘Houses,’ and these represent the celestial route that the Sun takes over a year. These 12 zodiac signs are superimposed over these 12 Houses. These Houses thus represent the 12 zodiac signs, and it is through these that the planets transit at various speeds over time.

The astrological predictions are made based only on the placement and movements of the planets across the Kundli chart, as above. It can very well be seen that the drawing of the Kundli is a complex process that requires tremendous expertise, and hence, it can be done only by those, well experienced in the field of astrology.

Benefits of Kundli

A Kundli can be said to contain the very blueprint of a person’s life and its events. This can provide precise details covering all crucial aspects of life, like education, employment, marriage, the birth of children, financial status, health, relationships, longevity, etc. It can also highlight the significant happenings and also the time frame in which these may take place.

The study of Kundli can thus provide insights about both the good and the bad that can happen to an individual. A person can thus come to know of the favorable time that is in store for him in advance, plan well, and try to utilize it to his best advantage. Similarly, one can also get a timely warning about the unfavorable time and its possible impacts, prepare oneself for it, and take all precautions to ward off the ill-effects to the extent possible.

The Kundali Matching also remains a powerful tool for deciding about the suitability of uniting a boy and girl in marriage. The study of their Kundalis, done individually and also together, can reveal the level of their mutual compatibility as life-partners. And this can act as a guide in deciding about their marital bond
