Manaiyadi Shastram is a part of Vastu Shastra. Manai in Tamil is the word for 'house' while Shastram denotes a field of study. Manaiyadi Shastram, therefore, is the field of study which examines the impact of the house’s dimensions – length, breadth, etc. – on the people who reside in the house. This is applicable to all the rooms in the house. Hence, when building the house, the length and breadth of each room are very important. If the dimensions are not right, the people living in that house might experience negative effects like illness, arguments, loss of money, and even death, in some cases. Given below are the good and bad consequences of a particular dimension for the rooms. Some important elements covered in this Shastra are the desired length, breadth, and width of the house that will enhance the health, wealth, and overall well-being of the inhabitants of the house. The length and breadth of the plot as well as the plot size, the months that are best for building the house, would also be included. There are many other rules too, but it is also a fact that sometimes it is not possible to follow all the rules.

Certain months, too, are considered auspicious for building houses, according to Manaiyadi Shastram. If you are building a house for yourself, Vaikasi month (May 15-June 15) is suitable. The work will go well, and it will be finished quickly. The quality, too, will be good, and the residents will have a blissful life. Aavani month (Aug 15– Sep 15) favors construction activity. The people residing in a house built in this month will be happy and financially secure. Karthigai (Nov 15 – Dec 15) and Margazhi (Dec 15 – Jan 15) months are also favorable, as they ensure divine blessings for the residents.
