Rudraksha, a seed that originates from an evergreen tree called the Elaeocarpus Granitus, is found in the Himalayan foothills and in Nepal, Indonesia, India, and parts of southeast Asia. They are revered as prayer beads used in meditation and the chanting of sacred mantras. Rudraksha is believed to be associated with healing and curative powers and can relieve mental stress and cure diseases.

It is believed that the Rudraksha emanated from Shiva, who was deep in meditation for a thousand years. When he opened his eyes, teardrops fell on the ground. They were, however, collected by Mother Earth as seeds and blossomed into Rudraksha trees.

You may buy the Rudraksha from reliable, trusted suppliers.

There are different types of Rudraksha, each with its benefits- the Panchmukhi Rudraksha, Dwimukhi Rudraksha, Shanmukhi Rudraksha, and the Gowri Shankar Rudraksha.
The Panchmukhi Rudraksha or the 5- Mukhi Rudraksha is a five-face Rudraksha that anyone above 14 years of age can wear. It cultivates inner freedom and purity. Among the various types of Rudraksha, this is the most popular type. It makes up nearly 60 percent of the total production of beads.Panchmukhi Rudraksha that originates from Indonesia is much smaller in size than the others.

This type holds a lot of significance as it is believed that Lord Shiva blessed this Rudraksha himself when he incarnated as Kalagni Rudra. Anyone wearing this Rudraksha with devotion and sincerity can be absolved of their sins and past life karma. Controlled by the benefic planet Jupiter, this Rudraksha is called the Devguru, Guru of all Devas.

Wearing the Panchmuhi Rudraksha close to your heart is believed to be beneficial to health as it controls ailments associated with the heart, blood pressure, hypertension, anxieties, and stress. You can wear the Rudraksha around your neck.

Whenever you buy a Rudraksha, please purchase with your own money, do not borrow money to buy one. It is preferable if you chose to wear the Rudraksha on an auspicious day; a Monday or Thursday would be most favorable.

If you purchase the Panchmukhi Rudraksha, first ensure to have it energized. Choose an auspicious day and time for the ritual of energizing the Rudraksha. You can check with your family priest for an auspicious date.

You can have the ritual done by a Brahman Pandit in a Shiva temple. The Rudraksha undergoes the Pran Prathista pooja ritual in the temple with chanting of sacred hymns and mantras to energize it. 'Pran' means life force, and 'Prathista' means position. The ritual energizes the Rudraksha and allows for its divine energies to flow.

You can wear the Rudraksha after completing the pooja. Do ensure to wear the Rudraksha as often as possible, so that it can fine-tune with your body's energy. However, it is advisable not to wear it to see a newborn or attend a funeral wearing the beads. The Rudraksha is very sensitized, and it may be improper to wear it to such places.

Ensure not to touch the Rudraksha with soiled hands. If you are not in a position, to wear this sacred bead, store it safely in a neat box in your pooja room. You can offer daily prayers to the Rudraksha.

You must always ensure that your beads are strung on a strong thread or Mala. Take care that the string does not break and allow the beads to fall on the ground. It is advisable to avoid non-vegetarian food or consume alcohol if you are to wear the Rudraksha regularly.

Keep the Rudraksha clean. You can clean any dirt or dust accumulated on the surface of the beads. Then wash it gently with holy water or clean running water. After drying the Rudraksha on soft cotton or silk cloth, oil it gently with olive oil or ghee, and offer incense sticks. Follow it up with prayers. Follow this procedure if you do not wear the Rudraksha regularly or put it away for some time.

Pray to Shiva, asking him to bestow his grace and blessings upon you.
