What Is Purusha Suktam?:

Purusha Suktam is an ancient Rig Vedic hymn, which is in praise of the universal being, Purusha. He pervades everything conscious and unconscious. It also appears in the Sama-veda Samhita, the Taittiriya Aranyaka, the Vajasaneyi Samhita, and the Atharva Veda Samhita. Purusha, the Supreme Being, is all-pervasive and extends beyond all directions and dimensions. He is beyond the limitations of any structure or form and hence is formless. Also, Lord Vishnu, who is invoked in this worship, remains the physical manifestation of spiritual consciousness and also the guardian of all living beings on the Earth. Chanting or listening to Purusha Suktam can bless the devotees with clarity of mind, excellence in all actions undertaken, success in endeavors, peace and joy in life, and also radiance, wealth, strength, prudence, prosperity, and power.

Significance Of Purusha Suktam:

Purusha Suktam is one of the Pancha Suktam (5 Suktams) – Purusha Suktam, Vishnu Suktam, Sri Suktam, Bhu Suktam, and Nila Suktam. From the oldest Rig Veda, Purusha Suktam is dedicated to Lord Vishnu, who is described as the great Purusha in the hymn. The mantras in this hymn are written in a meter (15 in the anustubh meter, and the final one in the tristubh meter) that has the power to generate a tremendous positive spiritual force. Purusha Suktam is also recited during Homas (Fire Labs) or statue installation rituals, and during meditation. The sacred hymn is believed to be very useful for diabetes and has been found to produce miraculous results when recited daily. Those who lack progeny and have marital problems too are said to be benefited from this Suktam.
