Thila Homa – The Remedy

We often encounter problems in life that refuse to go away despite our best efforts. It could be in any area of our life. delayed marriage, lack of children, inability to find a good job, debts, problems in buying and selling property… the list is endless. Why does this happen? To a certain extent, we can find rational explanations for all these difficulties. But there is also a hidden explanation which will be revealed in your horoscope. In most such cases, it will be found that the problems are caused by dead ancestors who have not been appeased properly. This is called Pitru Dosha.

Tila or Thila Homa (Fire Prayer) is a powerful Vedic remedy/ritual that is performed to address this particular problem. In this ritual, ‘Til’ (sesame seeds) are used, hence the name.

By performing Thila Homa we can bring peace to our departed ancestral souls. It is the best remedy for someone who is suffering from Pitru Dosha in his/her horoscope. As per scriptures, a person should perform Thila Homa once in his lifetime to get rid of Pitru Dosha from their horoscope. It is usually performed after offering Bali Tarpanam to ancestors. The scriptures describe many instructions that need to be followed before performing Thila Homa to get its total benefit. It is believed that if this homa is not performed with proper guidance, it can enhance the effect of Pitru Dosha.

Reasons Behind Pitru Dosha

As per scriptures, to have a blissful life, it is vital to please the ancestors. But, nowadays, people don’t have time to observe traditional rituals. They realize the importance of these rituals only when they run into problems.

Failure to perform rituals like ‘Tarpanam’ or ‘Shraadh’ to appease ancestors is the main reason for Pitru Dosha. Pitru Dosha might also occur if any family members have met unnatural deaths like accident, suicide, etc. as these departed souls do not get peace. If any of the ancestors up to 4th generation from the mother’s side and up to 7th generation from the father’s side died in their early age or due to some unnatural circumstances, then the current generation would face problems due to their curse. To escape from this curse, the present generation must perform the Bali Tarpanam (offerings of sesame seeds, rice balls, and water) and Thila Homa. This will liberate these departed souls and they in turn bestow their blessings for a blissful, healthy, and prosperous life on their descendants.
