After so much of hard work, you deserve it after all! Roop Chaturdashi is the day you can do all this. Roop Chaturdashi is when you pray to Lord Krishna to bless you with a healthy and beautiful body. It is celebrated exactly a day before Diwali. In its literal sense, Roop translates to beauty and Chaturdashi is the 14th day in the Karthik month of the lunar calendar. This day is also familiar in some places as Narak Chaturdashi or Roop Chaudas.
How and when did this tradition begin?During the olden days, there lived a sage in the land of Hiranyagarbha. He wanted to invoke the blessings of Lord Krishna and did a pooja for him. Strangely, after conducting the pooja his worries and problems in life increased. This is when he was guided by Narad Muni (a celestial sage) who told him that he did not do the pooja in the right manner and this is the cause of his misery. He was told to observe a fast and was asked to do it the right way this time around. He performed everything as instructed by Narad Muni and he received the blessings of beauty and good health by the Almighty. This day was specifically suggested to the sage since this is the day Lord Krishna killed the demon Narakasura and freed the world from evil.
