Shiva Mangalashtakam Lyrics in English

Shiva Mangalashtakam is a Mangala Stotra that is recited towards the end of a Shiva Pooja when a devotee has been reciting several Stotras. It is also recited when they have been singing several religious songs or when an auspicious ceremony/ritual comes to a conclusion. In the Mangala Stotra, the devotee is basically wishing auspiciousness to the deity. Mangalam also denotes “good wishes”, or “wishes for a happy ending”.
Lord Shiva is one of the Trimurtis or 3 major Hindu gods, along with Vishnu and Brahma. While Brahma is the creator and Vishnu is the preserver, Shiva is the one who destroys everything so that it can be created anew.
According to Shaivites or Shiva devotees, Shiva is the Supreme God. A story is commonly cited to prove his supremacy, in which he intervenes during an argument between Brahma and Vishnu about who is superior. Shiva turns into a flaming column of light and asks them to find its beginning and end to resolve the issue. The one who succeeded in the task would be the superior one, he said. But neither Brahma nor Vishnu could find the beginning and end of the column of light, thereby proving that it was Shiva himself who was the Supreme God.
