What are Yantras?

Yantras are a fundamental part of astrology. 'Yan' means ‘to control’ or ‘influence’, and 'Tra’ means ‘tool’. Yantra is a device that is like a diagram. It illustrates a sacred geometrical arrangement in a symmetrical design. When energized by performing certain sacred rituals, it is believed to emit positive cosmic energies and control negative energies. It helps individuals to elevate themselves spiritually.

Benefits of Yantras

  • Yantras have been in use since 3300 B.C. They were found in excavation sites associated with the Harappa civilization. In India, there are even temples in the shape of Yantras.
  • Yantras help stabilize the mind and orient you with divine energies. The planets which influence our lives, according to astrology, spread both positivity and negativity. Sometimes they change their nature as they change the astrological houses they occupy during their transits. The presence of Yantras can reduce the malefic effects of these transitions. Rahu Yantra and Shani Yantra, especially, are very popular as both Rahu and Shani are malefic planets.
  • The vibrations and cosmic energies generated by Yantras spreads positive energy and inner peace.
  • The Yantra’s energies can synchronize with one’s body to cure ailments, as with the Dhanvantari Yantra. If you are unable to pray daily, Yantras help by maintaining consistency of prayers.
  • People use Yantras to achieve specific purposes. Kubera Yantra is used for gaining wealth, and Maha Mrityunjaya Yantra is a Yantra for health that supposedly cures disease and enhances longevity.
  • Yantras are also used to rectify Vastu dosha.
  • Yantras like Pratyangira and Sudarshana Yantras can protect us against evil spells and black magic.
  • Yantras in astrology boost the positive effects of your Lagna. This can bring positive changes in your lifestyle or finances. For example, Surya Yantra is believed to intensify the energy of the Sun in your birth chart.
  • Yantras should be of good quality and must be used under proper guidance.
  • Expert astrologers recommend the worship of Yantras to remove planetary Doshas in your chart.
  • It is said that God created Yantras and gave them to humanity. There are around 56 Yantras, and each Yantra is dedicated to a particular deity or planet. Worshipping an energized Yantra pleases its presiding deity or planet.

Important Yantras in Astrology

Some Yantras have more significance than others. One is the Sri Yantra, which is believed to contain the entire cosmos. Planetary Yantras like Rahu, Mangal (Mars), Brihaspati (Jupiter), Shani (Saturn), Ketu, Surya (Sun), Budha (Mercury), Chandra (Moon), and Shukra (Venus) rank second in importance. Another major Yantra is the Lakshmi-Kubera Yantra, which supposedly brings good fortune, prosperity, and abundance. The Saraswati Yantra bestows knowledge, creativity, and wisdom. It is helpful for students.

How to Energize a Yantra?

To experience the benefits of the Yantra, one needs to energize or activate it. Place it on a level surface towards the direction of the ruling deity. Cleanse it with Gangajal, and chant the Mantra of the presiding deity 108 times. Light an incense stick during the chanting for better focus.

Dos and Don’ts

Yantras enable us to connect with God. So, there are rules to follow when worshipping a Yantra.
