Introduction
As human beings, we go through our daily routine and engage in mundane activities to sustain us. However, all these things are related to religious texts, which contain instructions and guidelines on how to follow certain customs and fulfill them. In recent times, people tend to regard such instructions as superstitions.
India is an ancient country and has religious and spiritual traditions and customs that come down through generations. A country with such diverse communities is sure to have many customs and practices that people follow even today.
Influence of Indian Traditions and Customs
It is customary to observe certain customs because they are so deeply rooted in our religious and spiritual consciousness. We believe in astrological and planetary influences, and they play a significant role in following traditions and rituals on certain days and months of the year. In any observance, there are several steps performed, and in acts of worship or celebrating a festival, they assume a huge role.
Everything is co-related or inter-connected, and it is these traditional beliefs that carry us through our routine. Certain daily activities, however, are related to scientific and astrological theories that validate why certain customs have an impact on us. People maintain belief and emphasize on maintaining such customs. Elders have grown up in their times with customs and traditions followed without questions.
Why Do Haircuts Follow Customs?
One such custom is that of getting a haircut. Elders point out that it is not a good habit to get one’s hair cut on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. The planets send out individual rays that may impact our well-being on certain days. As humans, we possess intelligence, and our brain is the core of our existence. The middle part of the head is delicate and more sensitive than the other parts. The hair protects our head. Getting a haircut on a Tuesday, Thursday or a Saturday means the rays may impact our heads.
Planetary Effects on Haircuts
A person getting a haircut on Tuesday may be affected. The planet Mars rules on Tuesdays and resides in our blood. Mars influences the human body, and the root of our hair is blood. Cutting hair on this day may harm our blood, causing cuts and bruises, and may increase the chances of blood diseases. It is a belief in India that as a rule, barbers will not touch their tools. Most people prefer to keep away from a barber’s shop or salon on a Tuesday.
Goddess Lakshmi presides over Thursday. Besides, Jupiter rules on Thursdays and holds great significance for knowledge, wealth, and progeny. Getting a haircut on a Thursday may lead to difficulties related to lack of finance, low intelligence, and troubles related to offspring.
Saturday is the day of Shani (Saturn). Saturn is a planet that is an indicator of delays and relates to death. It also increases longevity. The celestial bodies relate to the skin of humans. The belief goes that cutting or trimming hair on a Saturday will reduce its life by seven months.
Traditional Beliefs
People commonly believe that they should not get their hair cut on New Moon days, Full Moon days, and other inauspicious days, as specific components in human beings can make these energy waves more predominant in the atmosphere. These waves can get transferred into the hair through the hair follicles and reach the hair roots.
The negative energies at the hair root cause concentration of these waves. Customs forbid haircut on festival days and carrying out such tasks will become detrimental and spread harmful components in the atmosphere. Old traditions dictate that people should not cut hair on the date and Thithi (lunar day) of one’s birth. When we worship Gods, we experience low intensity to imbibe waves from stars, planets, and constellations that reduce the benefits we avail form our worship or puja. It can harm us at the spiritual level.
When people opt for a haircut on certain days that have festivals or are auspicious, it can cause spiritual harm as when a person cuts hair, it exposes the hair follicles to the environment, which emits the powerful sound into the atmosphere. The sounds attract negative energies which attack the environment around the individual’s body.
Getting a haircut on such days harms the individual whose behavior changes. There are negative energies which enter the body and create a negative void or causes harm to the individual.
Conclusion
The rituals associated with Indian customs and traditions have a religious and planetary impact on people. While some people consider such customs to carry superstitions from religious or mythical beliefs, there are scientific theories that explain why certain traditions come into play even today. Many people in the community prefer to adapt to the traditions and rituals that are so important for the spiritual and religious connections that they value.
