The 12 Zodiac Signs

Daily horoscopes which appear in newspapers and online sites are based on the 12 zodiac signs. They are Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius, and Pisces. Astrologers come up with the daily predictions for each sign after studying the positions and movements of the celestial bodies like the Sun, Moon, and the planets.
In the west, people follow the predictions for their sun sign mostly. The western system of astrology is different from the Indian system. The former follows the tropical system while the latter follows the sidereal system. Western astrology uses the fixed zodiac while Indian astrology uses the movable zodiac to determine the point where the zodiac begins. In Western Astrology, the earth is considered as the center with the celestial bodies revolving around it. However, Vedic astrology takes into account the fact that there is a slight shift in the position of the earth as the earth's axis also rotates. Because of the shift in planetary movements and the expansion of the Universe and the fact that things are always in motion, Vedic Astrology is believed to be more accurate even though the signs and planets have similar symbolic meanings and interpretation in both the systems. However, the calculations used in Vedic Astrology are seen to be more accurate and the methods more detailed.

The Moon Sign

In Vedic Astrology, the Moon sign is more important than the Sun sign. The Sun moves from one sign to another in 30 days, but the Moon changes signs every 2.25 days. Hence, predictions based on the Moon sign are believed to be more accurate as human moods and circumstances keep changing. The Moon rules the mind and emotions, as well as our temperament. Hence, moon sign predictions are seen to be more relevant. Thus, the prediction methods used in Vedic Astrology are regarded as more precise and detail-oriented, compared to western astrology. This adds to its accuracy and reliability factor.

The Rising Sign

However, apart from the Sun and Moon signs, there is a third factor which both Western and Vedic astrology considers significant. This is the Ascendant or Rising sign. This is the zodiac sign that is ascending over the eastern horizon when a person is born. It can best be described as a "mask" we wear as it represents our first responses to any situation. Every two hours, the rising sign changes, so it's essential to have an accurate time of birth when creating a horoscope.Sometimes people feel that the daily horoscope is not very reliable as the prediction for a particular day did not apply to their situation on that day. This is why many astrologers recommend that people look up their moon sign and ascendant sign predictions too. It may be the case that for some people, the moon sign or ascendant sign predictions are more relevant to their situation. So one can say that the entire question of which sign to follow for daily horoscopes depends on which sign has the strongest influence in your horoscope.
