Connection of Lord Ganesha and Durva Grass - The Legend Once a demon named Anlasur created mayhem around the world. He did not even spare the Gods and the earth would tremble by his voice. He swallowed innocent people, saints and sages. Even though Indra tried to control Anlasur several times there was no relief as Anlasur was beyond Indra’s control. The panic stricken Gods went to Archetype Shiva for their help and Shiva directed them to Ganesha. Ganesha agreed to help the Gods and fought a big war with the demon Anlasur. He finally took His Cosmic form and swallowed the demon. However, the heat from the stomach started causing agony to Lord Ganesha. He became restless and was not able to even lie down. Lord Indra gave Ganesha the Moon to wear on his forehead so that he could be cooled down. Hence, Ganesha is also known by the name Balachandra. Lord Shiva removed a cobra from his neck and tied it around Ganesha’s waist to remove his agony. Lord Varuna, (Rain God) also showered plenty of water, however these things did not work and Ganesha continued to suffer the heat. During this time 88,000 sages reached and started performing archana over Ganesha with 21 Durva grass each and miraculously Ganesha was cured. Ganesha pleased with this said “whoever with devotion offers me Durva grass would be moral and will get Punya.” While worshipping Lord Ganesha with Durva grass, the frequencies are transformed from within the Ganesha idol and are emitted all around thereby blessing the devotees with all the benefits of his or her choice.
