Introduction: Lord Ram sets a perfect example of how a human should conduct his life on earth. Such a celebrated God’s birthday is commemorated as Sri Ram Navami. He is one among the incarnations of Lord Vishnu, who descended to earth from the heaven above, to help humans. The roots of this tradition run deep for more than 5000 years. Fasting has both a scientific and religious rationale behind it.
Ram Navami Fast:
Many people consider Rama Navami Fast as an important part of the ritual and feel highly motivated to undertake fasting. It is the time, when one should concentrate on the divine part of life, and focus on various aspects of how to heal the inner soul, and fill it with the essence of the Lord. Fasting starts the night before Sri Ram Navami. Some people will also continue fasting on Sri Ram Navami. People perform special worship and “Homa” to Lord Rama’s picture or an idol. Many people will chant Lord Rama’s names, and pray on that day continuously. After completing the fast, the images, along with many items, are to be donated either to priests or to needy people. Donating on this day will bring enormous benefits and the blessings of Lord Ram.

People can observe three different types of fasts on this day, which can be classified as:
Many people observe the fast with just a single meal, and just take fruits. Instead, if a person is eating a full meal once a day during fasting, it can include potatoes and should avoid turmeric, garlic, ginger or onion, fruits, and any type of vegetables. It is highly important to avoid curd, tea, coffee, milk, and water. Although, it is not compulsory to keep a waterless fast, many people can observe the fast by drinking adequate water to keep themselves properly hydrated. Many people observe a strict fast, not even drinking a drop of water for the total day. It is also important to use only rock salt while preparing the food or prasadam for the Lord. Many people will also have their food after the prayers, and eat the prasadam.

It is said that when a devotee fasts on Ram Navami with utmost earnestness and piety, the Lord will bless with an abundance of happiness, peace, wealth, prosperity and higher spiritual guidance.
