Nila Suktam – A Vedic Hymn for Wish-Fulfillment

May 15, 2020
(99)

A Suktam is a hymn that praises a particular deity by mentioning the deity’s attributes and features. It is one of the Pancha Suktam (5 Suktams) – Purusha Suktam, Vishnu Suktam, Sri Suktam, Bhu Suktam, and Nila Suktam. This Suktam is also known as Vishnu Patni Suktam and Aditi Suktam. The deity, Nila Devi or Aditi, is the creator of the world, and the third wife of Vishnu. Sri Devi and Bhu Devi are the other wives. Not many people know that Nila Devi is Vishnu’s wife. Supposedly, she was born as Radha, during Vishnu’s Krishna avatar. Nila Devi is a goddess who fulfills the desires of devotees, so this Suktam can be chanted regularly for wish-fulfillment.
