Damodarashtakam is a prayer from the Padma Purana, which was compiled by Satyavrata Muni. It is a dialogue between Narada Muni and Saunak Rishi. Damodar (Oct-Nov) is a very auspicious month for devotees of Krishna or Vishnu. During this month, devotees celebrate Krishna’s pastime of being bound with the ropes of love by his foster mother, Yasoda, when he was mischievous. Damodara denotes one who is bound by the ropes of love. The Scriptures say that one who offers ghee lamps to Damodara in this holy month and sings the Damodarashtakam (8 verses that glorify the Lord) can become free of his past sins and enhance bhakti/devotion.
